시대로부터 수신 거부된 사람들
1970년대 말 주한미군부대가 주둔한 그 마을은 전쟁이 만들어낸 상처가 고스란히 남아있는, 물이 흐르지 않는 웅덩이 같은 곳이다. 그곳에는 마을사람들에게 외면당한 채 혼혈인 아들과 함께 빨간버스에서 사는 양공주였던 창국모가 있고 6.25전쟁 때 얻은 다리부상이 유일한 자랑거리인 생활력 없는 지흠아버지, 그리고 난폭하지만 유일하게 창국모자를 이해하고 돌봐주는 개눈이 있다. 개눈은 한결같은 마음으로 창국모를 대하지만 그녀에게 함부로 구는 창국에게는 분노를 느낀다
희망을 모르고 자란 아이들의 사랑
어린 시절 한 쪽 눈을 다친 은옥은 콤플렉스 때문에 폐쇄적인 성격이 되어 순수한 지흠의 사랑을 받아들이지 못하고 눈을 고쳐주겠다는 미군 제임스를 못내 받아들인다.
창국은 '튀기'라는 말에 주먹을 휘두르고 엄마에게 발길질을 하는 거친 성격이면서도 나약하고 선량한 친구 지흠에게만은 진한 우정을 보여준다. 개장수 개눈에게 벗어나고 싶지만 아무도 그를 받아주지 않는다.
지흠은 그들을 도우려할수록 현실 앞에서 아무것도 할 수 없는 자신의 나약함을 깨닫고 절망하는데...
