The patriotic heroism of Yi Sun-shin has been brought to life in a 3D movie.
Namhae County recently said construction is underway to build a movie theater that will exclusively screen films related to Yi. Namhae County says 14.8 million dollars have been spent to build the theater located in Chamyeon-ri, Gohyeon-myun. The construction, which was launched in 2005, is slated for completion in July.
The state-of-the-art dome-shaped movie theater resembles Gyeobukseon, or a turtle ship, an innovative vessel of the time which the admiral designed himself. The building comprises two stories and one basement level. Namhae County says it will create a documentary film on the life of Admiral Yi as well as the Noryang Sea Battle by August.
The film will feature vivid battle scenes using cutting-edge computer graphics.
The theater complex will also accomodate an exhibition hall, a tourist information center, agricultural stand and a parking lot.
A Namhae County official said the movie theater will offer Koreans a great opportunity to learn about Korea's greatest naval hero. He also expressed hope that the movie theater complex will establish itself as one of the leading tourist attractions of Namhae County.
