MBC's megafantasy historical drama "The Legend" (written by Song Ji-na and Park Kyeong-soo, and directed by Kim Jong-hak and Yoon Sang-ho) will be made into an animation.
G&G Entertainment (CEO: Jeong, Keuk-Pyo) said on December 5, "We sealed an agreement last November 21 with TSG Production, the owner of The Legend, regarding the production and airing of the animation The Legend on TV and in theaters".
Having recently broadcast its grand finale with an over 30% rating, "The Legend" is as popular as ever, and the industry is closely watching the public's response to its animation version.
"The story of the animation "The Legend" will be different from that of the drama", said Moon, Woong-Bin, director of the Content Team at G&G Entertainment. "We will introduce a new R&D institute for this animation to showcase original and extraordinary visuals".
About KRW 120M was spent on the production of each episode of the drama. Fuelled by the fame of the drama that reignited the "Yonsama Syndrome", the animation also plans to attack the Japanese market. Along with the drama, which will be broadcast beginning August next year, the TV animation is set to arrive in Japan, and in the following year, the animation will open in theaters nationwide.
"We now have to attack not only dramas but also animation in Japan", argued Jeong, Keuk-Pyo, CEO of G&G Entertainment. "We will strive to further propagate the Korea Syndrome by extending it to the realm of animation".
In addition to the recent publication of cartoons and novels based on the drama, historical books delving on the history and culture of Kokuryeo have been released as the place has become a sensation owing to the popularity of the drama that has been set in it. Even before the drama was premiered in Korea, a book on the making of the drama as well as teaser DVDs had been produced and had been met with much enthusiasm by the public. The official OST will also be published this month, and a picture book, a Bae Yong-joon doll, and other products based on the drama will soon follow, consolidating the "The Legend" wave. The industry expects the animation The Legend to perform well in Japan, thanks to the fame of the drama on which it was based.
