What's Up, Fox? Limited Edition (MBC TV Series) DVD Region 3

There's something about Ko Hyun Jung. One of the top actresses of the 90s, she is best remembered for her performance in the phenomenally popular Sandglass. Much to the dismay of fans, however, she left the industry after Sandglass. In 2005, ten years after Sandglass, Ko Hyun Jung returned to acting with SBS drama Spring Days, looking as beautiful as ever. This year, she continues to win over old and new fans alike, appearing in Hong Sang Soo's latest film Woman on the Beach and the hilarious romantic comedy What's Up, Fox? which pulled in high TV ratings despite airing in a very competitive slot.

In the tradition of series like My Lovely Sam-Soon and Snow White, new drama What's Up, Fox? (a.k.a. Foxy Lady) presents a lighthearted, yet touching "older sister/younger brother" relationship, only in a more realistic context. Ko Hyun Jung and Chun Jeong Myung (Goodbye Solo and Fashion 70s) show great on-screen chemistry, and the fabulous supporting cast, including newcomer Kim Eun Joo, drama regular Kwon Hae Hyo, and veteran Yoon Jeo Yung, bring both comedy and gravity to the story. Chaotic, colorful, and laugh-out-loud funny, What's Up, Fox? shows that love is possible at any age.

Single 33-year-old columnist Go Byung Hee (Ko Hyun Jung) works for a racy men's magazine. As her alter ego "Miss Go", she writes candidly about sexual liaisons; in real life, she is woefully inexperienced in matters of sex and love, and still awkwardly waiting for the perfect guy. Then one drunken night, she ends up sleeping with her best friend's little brother, 24-year-old Park Chul Soo (Chun Jeong Myung). The two agree to pretend the night never happened, but seem to keep growing closer over time. Soon Byung Hee meets a handsome doctor, and just as things seem to be falling into fairy tale place, Chul Soo declares his love to her.

MBC를 통해 방영되는 <여우야 뭐하니>는 한국 사회에서 서른을 넘긴 미혼 여성이, 바로 그 미혼이라는 이유로(게다가 성경험이 전무하다는 이유로) 겪게 되는 자기 모순의 논스톱 퍼레이드라는 점에서 기존 한국 드라마들 중에서 가장 전위적인 작품으로 여겨진다. 작품의 주인공 고병희의 자기 모순이 거의 항상 성적 경험과 성적 판타지로부터 발생한다는 점에서 <여우야 뭐하니>는 선정성과 도덕성 논란으로부터 매번 발목을 잡히고 있지만, 그렇다고 그것이 이 작품의 전부가 될 수는 없을 것이다. 우리가 <여우야 뭐하니>의 선정성과 선진성을 동시에 발견할 수 있다면, 그것은 바로 이 작품이 여성의 몸에 대한 담론들을 달콤쌉싸름하면서도 지리멸렬한 연애의 카테고리 안에서 유쾌하게 풀어내고 있기 때문일 것이다.

남성성인잡지 쎄시봉의 기자인 병희(고현정)는 사무실 컴퓨터 앞에 앉아 주몽 세트장을 배경으로 한 음란한 기사를 쓰고 있다. 병희는 의욕적으로 키보드를 두드리며 혼자서 연기까지 하다가 거울 앞에 서서 이런저런 포즈를 취해 보기도 한다. 그 때 사무실에 들어선 희명(조연우)은 병희의 모습을 보고 놀라고, 한 발 늦게 상황을 안 병희는 머리를 쥐어뜯는다. 여행에서 돌아온 철수(천정명)는 누나의 집을 찾지만 다른 사람의 집으로 바뀌어 있고, 갈 데가 없는 철수는 병희의 집 담장을 뛰어넘어 제 집처럼 자연스레 들어간다. 저녁 찬거리를 사들고 귀가한 병희는 누군가가 샤워하는 소리에 깜짝 놀란다.

화가난 승혜(안선영)는 철수를 향해 비디오 테이프를 집어 던지고, 가까스로 목숨을 건진 철수는 비디오가게 쪽문에 연결된 창고 같은 공간을 주거겸 작업실로 쓰게 된다. 준희(김은주)는 패션쇼 무대 리허설에서 병각(손현주)에게 심한 말을 듣고, 병각은 나가는 준희를 훑어 보더니 다시 대기하라 한다. 산부인과를 처음 찾은 병희는 이상한 자세로 진찰을 받아야 하자 비명을 지르고, 자궁근종이 생겼다는 진단을 받고 눈이 동그래진다.
