A marriage squandered Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
"Happy End" is a stunning viewing experience. Choi Min Sik plays an out-of-work banker caring for a newborn daughter. Already feeling a loss of manhood from losing his job, he discovers that his wife, played by Jeon Do Yeon, is having an affair.

I found it gut-wrenching to watch Miss Jeon's character caught up in her heedless passion and Mr. Choi's character dealing with realization that his marriage has become an empty shell. It was particularly searing to see Jeon Do Yeon abandon herself in several very explicit sex scenes.

It isn't easy viewing, but "Happy End" tells the truth about how people mess up their lives. It also is a tightly written, finely made movie with powerful performances by its two leads. For that, I highly recommend it for a mature audience.

This is one of the best Korean movies of the last 10 years. Wonderfully filmed and acted, this heart-breaking, tragic story is told with intelligence and subtlety. The story is common and the ending predictable, but each character is brought out and examined in very interesting ways. Each frame, each line of dialogue tells the viewer more about the story and each person. Movie making at its subtle best. This is a real don't miss. All three actors do an excellent job.

Not Shocking As Billed Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
Typical foreign movie where the transition between events are a bit choppy -- typical foreign film with less emphasis on editing -- perhaps of constraint resources.

Movie portaits a realistic family where one spouse is more sucessful than other which creates unavoidable event. An above average movie but not too shocking ending as billed.

Happy End is an interesting story, but not all that well thought out. It reminded me of American movies like Unfaithful, where the small details aren't really thought out. The actors did a fine job, but the sex scenes were too long, making if seem like a soft porn movie.
