For overseas research and expansion of the general public's interest in Korean film, KOFIC has selected major university libraries to support research by focusing on books and DVDs regarding Korean films.
After the announcement in September, KOFIC received applications from major university libraries. KOFIC's selection criteria included geographical location, name value of the university, current status of the film research program. KOFIC came to select a total of 6 libraries that belong to universities with programs on film and Korean studies. The chosen libraries to receive support as the hub for studies on Korean films are: University of Chicago, UCLA, Columbia University, University of Sydney, Free University Berlin and Indiana University.
Through close consultation with the selected university libraries, KOFIC will support mainly by providing Korean film related books published after 1950s and DVDs with subtitles, so that the libraries will become the center for Korean film research. After this year's trial period, from next year on, it is planned to expand the project to more than 10 university libraries with a more globally balanced selection.
