"Formidable Rivals" Wraps at 9.4%

The KBS2 TV Monday-Tuesday drama, "Formidable Rivals", ended on June 3rd, with the final episode ratings unable to break through 10%.

According to AGB Nielsen Media Research, the last episode of "Formidable Rivals" did, however, receive the highest rating (9.4%) of its broadcasts. The drama started airing on April 14th and its average TV ratings were calculated at 7.7%.

Starring Chae Rim, Lee Jong-hyuk and Lee Jin-wook, "Formidable Rivals" was a TV drama about the lives of Secret Service agents who worked at the Blue House. Though the plot was unique, it was overshadowed by the popularity of the MBC period piece, "Yi San", Wind of the Palace.

On June 3rd, the TV ratings of "Yi San" were 28.9% and the ratings of the SBS drama "Tokyo Sun Shower" were recorded at 4.2%.

The production filling the "Formidable Rivals" spot will be the martial arts period drama, "Chil-woo, the Mighty", starring Eric Moon and Koo Hye-seon. Its first broadcast will be on June 9th.

"Rivals" on KBS 2TV Kicks Off with 7.1% Viewer Rating

"Kangjeok" or "Rivals", a brand new drama series on KBS 2TV starring Chae Rim and Lee Jong-hyuk, started off with a lower-than-expected viewer rating of 7.1 percent (TNS Media Korea) on April 14.

In the first episode, new bodyguards were shown going through grueling training sessions. "Rivals" competed with "Yi San" on MBC (27.9%) and "I Love You" on SBS (6.7%).

According to AGB Nielsen Media Research, the viewer rating for "Rivals" on April 4 was 6.1 percent while that of "Isan" and "I Love You" were 28.4 percent and 7 percent, respectively.

The viewer rating for "Rivals" is only slightly higher than the preceding drama series "Single Dad in Love" which recorded a viewer rating of 5.9 percent in the first episode and an average viewer rating of 4.6 percent.

Meanwhile, "Unshaken", a new morning drama series on MBC starring Hong Eun-hee and Kim Nam-jin, recorded a viewer rating of 12.6 for the first episode according to AGB Nielsen Media Research. "I Still Love You", the pre...| More

Star siblings, different as sun and shade

If there is shade, there is also a sunny spot. The entertainment industry also has its share of light and shade. It is especially prominent where siblings are both in the industry.

Most of the time, one sibling has all of the spotlight while one loses it. Those who don't receive recognition for their talent are called 'misfortunes'.

There are siblings even in this generation, including Ha Ji-won's younger brother Jeon Tae-soo, Chae Rim's younger brother Park Sang-uk, Lee Yo-won's cousin Lee Joong-moon, Jang Nara's older brother Jang Seong-won, Seo Ji-yeong's older brother Seo Bae-joon, Kim Hye-soo's youngest brother Kim Dong-hwi. Jeon Tae-soo acted in "A Good Day to Love" and "The King and I" but he cannot move past the label of being "Ha Ji-won's brother".

Female presidents, bodyguards... 'Women Power'

It seems that the new keyword for 2008 will become 'women power'.

Female stars who received popularity for effeminate roles are now trying new characters, such as famous politicians, female bodyguards, and female detectives.

Ko Hyeon-jeong will be acting as Korea's first female president in her next drama, SBS "Big Things", set to air in May 2008.

Ko Hyeon-jeong's role of Seo Hye-rim is a passionate lawyer. She quits after taking responsibility for the arrest a political gang's leader, and becomes famous as a civil rights lawyer. She runs for office and is elected as a female president.

Ko Hyeon-jeong also acted as the first female chief of a police squad in the MBC drama "Hit". She is receiving roles that differ from her past image, and that are many "firsts" in the drama industry.

Also, Chae Rim will be coming back to television as a female bodyguard.

Two Korean movie production outfits choose the busy streets of Manila and beach of Boracay ..

MANILA- Two Korean movie production outfits have chosen the busy streets of Manila, the pristine beaches of Boracay Island in Aklan and the scenic Pagsanjan Falls in Laguna to serve as backdrops for the romantic comedy they are filming here, Department of Tourism secretary Joseph Ace Durano has announced.

The crew of DRM Entertainment Co. Ltd. and Story Factory, producers of the romantic comedy "Feel So Good", has been at work in the country since Jan. 9, Durano told Korean and Filipino entertainment writers in a press conference last week. Shooting wraps up on Feb. 23, he added.


For this particular production, the DOT is helping the Korean group obtain permits and other logistical requirements for the location shoots. It is also tapping local talent for additional assistance, said Durano.
