Bae Yong-joon rekindles Korean wave

Asia's heartthrob Bae Yong-joon visited Japan last month to promote his latest TV drama "The Legend" ( "Taewangsashingi" - "The Four Guardian Gods of the King"). Since the premiere of the movie "April Snow" three years ago, it was his first official visit to the country where he is affectionately known as "Yonsama".

Bae and other co-stars participated in the premium event held in Osaka on June 1, attracting more than 35,000 people and keen interest from the Japanese media.

The epic blockbuster drama, aired by Japanese public broadcaster NHK, is about the life of the King Gwanggyeto of the Goguryeo Dynasty (37 B.C.-A.D. 68). While King Gwanggyeto is considered the most charismatic conqueror controlling neighboring territories in Korean history, Bae played the king with a soft side.

Andre Kim, who recently came out on SBS "The Star Show", revealed stories about his challenges, passion, and family.

He picked Choi Ji-woo as the star with the most perfect body. "Choi Ji-woo has an ideal figure. She is lean but has perfect balance".

He picked Lee Byeong-Heon as the actor with the most handsome charisma. "His eyes are alive. The fashion show in Cairo he participated in was grand".

Hallyu Wood Draws Attention of Asian Press

Ten major press agencies around Asia flocked to cover the launch of the construction of the Hallyu Wood Theme Park and the Hallyu Wood Start Festival.

A 34-year-old reporter from Hong Kong's cable network CEN spent a busy day interviewing Korean celebrities in Ilsan, the venue of the Hallyu Wood Start Festival. She said that the Hallyu Wood complex will be a great entertainment space for Asian fans of Korean cultural content.

Another reporter from a Japanese cable network program entitled 'Movie Plus' also expressed his hope that Hallyu Wood would become a great venue for cultural exchange.

Bae, Choi to Voice 'Winter Sonata' Cartoon

Actors Bae Yong-joon and Choi Ji-woo, who gave flight to hallyu or the Korean wave with the TV series "Winter Sonata", will team up again to play the voices for the animation version of the love story. They will record the voiceovers in Korean, which will be translated into Japanese subtitles.

December last year, Korea's Key East and Japan's Total Promotion signed an Memorandum of Understanding for a joint project to make an animated version of "Winter Sonata". Bae had publicized plans to voice the part of his character Jun-sang at the Tokyo International Animation Fair in February, and Choi decided to join the team as well, Choi's management agency Olive9 announced Thursday.

"Choi Ji-woo decided to participate in the animation project as a token of appreciation for her fans, and hopes to rekindle the emotions of the original drama", said a representative of Olive9.

Jackie Chan, Choi Ji-woo to Promote Hallyuwood

Hong Kong star Jackie Chan and Korean actress Choi Ji-woo will be the honorary ambassadors of Hallyuwood, an" Asian entertainment mecca" in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.

"Jackie Chan was chosen because of his continuous interest toward Korea and also his friendship with top Korean hallyu (or the Korean wave) stars. We thought he would be perfect to introduce the Korean culture to the world", an organizer of Hallyuwood was quoted as saying by Yonhap News.

Along with Chan, Korean actress Choi Ji-woo will also represent the Asian entertainment mecca. The 32-year-old actress has gained popularity not only in Korea, but also in Japan and China through dramas like "Winter Sonata (2002)" and "Air City" (2007).

"Choi was born in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, so she was more than eager to join Chan", another organizer said.
