Stars to enter military service at end of year, 'so busy'

Male stars who are to enter military service at the end of 2008 are busy with last-minute activities. Seong Shi-kyeong and Jo Hyeon-jae are preparing albums, and Eric Moon, Lee Dong-geon, and Kim Rae-won are in dramas.

Jo Hyeon-jae, who ended "Three Dads, One Mom" is busy with Japanese fan meetings and album preparations. He met Japanese fans, in Osaka on the 22nd, Tokyo on the 23rd, and Nagoya on the 27th. He is also secretly preparing an album. His songs he revealed at the Japanese fan meetings, 'Beside You Like the Wind' and 'Words You Said', are ballads that were revealed through soundtracks and digital singles.

Kim Rae-won, Lee Dong-geon, and Eric Moon are the main characters of the Monday-Tuesday dramas. "Gourmet", "When It's At Night", and "Strongest Chil Woo" are all their last works before military service and more meaningful. Rivaling the drama 'Shikgaek', 'The Great ChilWoo' may take a risk in losing viewers with their cheap action scenes.

Viewers complained about the fake horses in the drama 'The Great ChilWoo' used for closup scenes of Eric Moon from ShinHwa taking the lead role as ChilWoo chasing JaJa, Lee Eon previously from 'Coffee Prince'. It seemed as if KBS2's drama, 'The Great Chilwoo' went back 10 years in time for using old fashioned action techniques. Way to lower the drama quality!

Yet another Joseon Dynasty hero swoops into prime time slot

Is it a time for heroes? SBS and KBS think so. Fast on the heels of SBS' masked marauder, Iljimae, KBS' Chil-woo, a veritable Joseon-style Batman, will swoop into the Monday and Tuesday night time slot on June 17.

Originally set to air tonight, the historical-action miniseries called "Choi Kang Chil Woo" (Strongest Chil Woo) got pushed back a week. News reports indicate that the date was delayed to avoid direct competition with MBC's "Yi San", the final episode of which is set for June 16.

But "Yi San" is just one of the many challenges that hero Chil-woo faces. With SBS set to crush Chil-woo before he has a chance to put up a fight, KBS needs to pull out all the stops early on to have a chance of winning.

SBS' currently popular "Iljimae" and its upcoming blockbuster "Sikgaek" are formidable foes in the race to get high ratings. And Chil-woo may not have what it takes to beat its competitors.

"Powerful Opponents" Wraps at 9.4%

The KBS2 TV Monday-Tuesday drama, "Powerful Opponents", ended on June 3rd, with the final episode ratings unable to break through 10%.

According to AGB Nielsen Media Research, the last episode of "Powerful Opponents" did, however, receive the highest rating (9.4%) of its broadcasts. The drama started airing on April 14th and its average TV ratings were calculated at 7.7%.

Starring Chae Rim, Lee Jong-hyuk and Lee Jin-wook, "Powerful Opponents" was a TV drama about the lives of Secret Service agents who worked at the Blue House. Though the plot was unique, it was overshadowed by the popularity of the MBC period piece, "Yi San", Wind of the Palace.

On June 3rd, the TV ratings of "Yi San" were 28.9% and the ratings of the SBS drama "Tokyo Sun Shower" were recorded at 4.2%.

The production filling the "Powerful Opponents" spot will be the martial arts period drama, "Chil-woo, the Mighty", starring Eric Moon and Koo Hye-seon. Its first broadcast will be on June 9th.
