'Single Daddy in Love' promises comic relief

A mixed martial arts fighter plays a single father to his seven-year-old son in KBS's new drama "Single Dad in Love".

Set to air its first episode tonight, "Single Dad in Love" follows on the heels of the star-studded melodrama "Bad Love". And, unlike its melancholy predecessor, this comic drama promises to bring laughter into households nationwide with its talented cast and quirky plot.

"[This drama] is like a fairy tale that is filled with the warm laughter and love of people who want to build their own families", said director Moon Bo-hyeon.

And veteran actors Oh Ji-ho and Kang Seong-yeon, along with newcomer Heo I-jae, promise to give this fairy tale drama the levity and warmth it needs to have its happy ending.

Oh, 31, who won audiences over with his comic performance in MBC's drama "Fantastic Couple" (2006), now takes on the challenging role of Kang Poong-ho, a single father who ekes out a living for his small family as a mixed martial arts fighter.

Rising actress Heo I-jae of the MBC series "Prince Hours" has been cast for her second starring role in a miniseries.

Heo I-jae will co-star Oh Ji-ho in the upcoming KBS drama series "Single Dad in Love" to be aired following "Bad Love" on February 18th.

The series is about a single father who is a pest exterminator by day and K-1 fighter at night.

Heo I-jae who is making a return after 8 months will play the role of Jeon Ha Ri, the only daughter of a wealthy family and medical student who falls in love with a single father played by Oh Ji-ho who has a 7-year old son. She will be drawing the cute love with Oh Ji Ho who seems to have a mismatched background.

Rising Star Awards Welcomes Henney

After making himself a familiar face in Korean living rooms in 2005 by starring in MBC TV drama "My Lovely Sam Soon" ("My Name is Kim Sam-soon"), the Korean-American model-turned-actor Daniel Henney finally received official recognition for his life-changing decision to leave the US and settle in Korea. During the 12th Pusan International Film Festival earlier this month, Henney was awarded the 3rd annual Premiere Rising Star Award for his moving role in his second feature to date, "My Father" (2007).

Released locally on September 6th, the feature is about a Korean adoptee named James (played by Henney) who, in order to search for his biological parents, enlists in the US Armed Forces stationed in Korea. He eventually finds his father who turns out to be a condemned man sitting on Death Row. BUSAN -- Premiere Magazine's 3rd Rising Star Awards recognized the talent of actors Daniel Henney ("My Father") and Kim Ah-joong ("200 Pounds Beauty") at at a Busan hotel, Saturday, at the 12th Pusan (Busan) International Film Festival (PIFF).

The private ceremony was very intimate, with close friends presenting prizes to awardees. Premiere Magazine chooses among works from the past two years, taking into account its artistic merit, popularity, influence and brand power, as well as input from online polls.

"This is a very special award. It's for acting, it's an acting award", said Daniel Henney, who gave a moving performance as a Korean adoptee in "My Father", a breakthrough role that showed he's more than just a pretty face. Director Hwang Kyoo-deok handed him the award.
