[DVD Review] Vagueness fills DVD on having affairs

Even with some thought, it's not easy to figure out whether Jang Moon-il's "A Good Day to Have an Affair" is a movie for a girl or a guy.
The film dresses up as a girl's movie at first, starring two female heroines as married women delving into their search for lost identity and sexual desire. Yet it's unclear whether their escapes lead them to find something meaningful in life or surrender to the system.
"Tweedy" (played by Yoon Ji-seo) meets "Two Foxes" on an Internet chat line as a refuge from her meaningless marriage to her husband, who "stopped talking as soon as he entered the wedding chapel". She finds freedom in Two Foxes, an immature womanizing banker who is always too busy fondling her chest in love motels and making up cheap, dirty stories about his sexual fantasies.
"Dew" (Kim Hye-soo) has a light affair with a young boy she also meets on a chat line, "the college student", but she's constantly chased around by a private investigator hired by her husband.

14 Korean Films go to Italy's Far East Fest

The 9th Udine Far East Film Festival boasts one of the largest showcases of Asian cinema in Europe. This year around 60 titles from across Asia were selected to screen at the event which runs April 20th to 28th in the picturesque northern Italian city. This year 14 top Korean films were invited, of which several will have their International Premiere at the festival.

Making their International festival debut are LEE Jeong-beom's gangster-themed drama "Cruel Winter Blues", JANG Jin's comedy-noir "Righteous Ties", JANG Moon-il's romantic-comedy "A Good Day for an Affair", BYEON Seung-wook's drama "Solace". Two of Korea's top-grossing hits of late 2006 will have their European Premier: CHOI Dong-hoon's high-stakes comedy-thriller "Tazza: The High Rollers" ("The War of Flower") and KIM Yong-hwa's weighty satire "200 Pounds Beauty", a look at the culture of plastic-surgery in the entertainment industry. Smart actress matures as a big star

It seems like Kim Hye-soo is finally walking into the spotlight. For the last 21 years she has been a mellow actress who was rarely cast in the most challenging roles. But now she may be finally getting an opportunity to show her full potential. And, at 37, Ms. Kim appears to have entered the second act of her career.
She showed she can act in "The War of Flower", in which she played a gambling ace with a beautiful naked back that revealed curves enough to entice over 7 million viewers. Coming up in a few weeks she will turn herself into a housewife who secretly dates a college student in director Jang Moon-il's "A Good Day to Have an Affair". She will also play an unaffected aunt in Jeong Yoon-cheol's "Shim's Family" and a prostitute in Kim Jin-seong's "Eleventh Mom".

One deals with infidelity, the other, martial arts.

The Korean comedy "A Good Day to Have an Affair" is about two married women who cheat on their husbands.
Director Jang Moon-il's second movie stars actresses Kim Hye-soo and Yoon Jin-seo, and the two women are only identified by their online chat names.
Dew is a sexy and fashionable woman who begins dating a college student.
She meets other men as revenge against her husband who has long been in love with another woman.
Small Bird is the wife of a detective who meets a playboy while chatting online.
The two women try to find true love, something which they believe they cannot get in their marriages.

Another Korean comedy features martial arts.

'A Day..'. Ironically Is About Love

The immorality of a sexual relationship outside marriage shouldn't be debated. But the new film "A Good Day to Have an Affair" asks, "Is it really immoral?"

The film revolves around two married women who seek and take lovers, deceiving their husbands. They seem to have good reasons.

In dealing with their secret love affairs, the film, promoted as "a sexy comedy", produces hilarious adult jokes through the bold dialogue.

The film's daring journey toward an answer to the question, however, ends at a somewhat cliched destination _ the two women are back where they started.

Directed by Jang Moon-il, the film centers on the lives of two married women, who are only identified by their online chat names, Dew (played by Kim Hye-soo) and Small Bird (by Yoon Jin-seo).

They have different personalities and tastes. But what they have in common is that they want to meet a man who can satisfy their unfulfilled desires.
