Choi Ji-woo to star in Korea-Japan drama

Korean actress Choi Ji-woo who has led Hallyu (referring to the popularity of Korean pop culture, especially across Asia) is set to star in a melodrama to be jointly produced by Korea and Japan.

A spokesman for Choi said she has been cast in Lovers in Asuka, set in Nara Prefecture in Japan's Kansai region.

Korea's Olive Nine, the producers of "Jumong", "Hwangjin-i", and "The King and I", will be responsible for production and Japan's Dentsu Group for attracting investment and distribution.

Since the drama is aimed at revitalizing the Hallyu or Korean Wave once again in Japan, Kang Eun-jeong, writer for the drama and director Boo Seong-cheol, said they chose a Hallyu star.
Shooting starts in September in Nara, for airing in December.

Meanwhile, Korean and Japanese production, broadcasting and marketing companies have joined hands for content creation, investment, production, broadcasting and distribution for the 20-episode drama.

"Lovers in Asuka" is a joint production of Olive Nine, the producers of "Jumong", "Hwangjin-i", and "The King and I", and the Japanese advertising agency Dentsu. It will air on SBS this December.

Olive Nine said that "Lovers in Asuka" will be set in Nara in Kansai, Japan, and contain an exotic love story. Writer Kang Eun-jeong is already working on it, and SBS director Boo Seong-cheol will hold the megaphone.

'Bad Wife' Flips Traditional Roles

According to a recent survey by job recruiting Web site Career ( http://www.career.co.kr ), two out of three people view married men who spend their time raising children and doing house chores positively.

Reflecting such a change in people's idea of the traditional role of husbands and wives, SBS TV's "Bad Wife (Pulryang Chubu)", which airs 9:55 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, recorded an 18.6 percent viewing rate this week, the highest among other TV dramas in the same time slot, according to TNS Media Korea. Owing to its popularity, its broadcasting period has been extended two more weeks.

The story is about Su-han, a fatherly man in his mid-thirties, who becomes a full-time home manager after voluntary retirement, while his wife Mi-na becomes the breadwinner who had only concentrated on household chores up until then.
