Main actors' fighting spirit, Will "Iljimae" soar?

The backbone actors of SBS "Iljimae" are becoming a hot issue. They are Lee Moon-sik, Kim Chang-wan, and Ahn Kil-kang.

Lee Moon-sik, who plays the role of Swe-dol, showed his 'passion' by volunteering to taking out his teeth to differentiate from his character in "Damo". The producers, who were moved, inserted the story of his teeth coming out in the drama.

In the drama, Swe-dol will face the danger of getting his wrist cut off from Byeon-shik (Lee Won-jong) because he assaulted Shi-wan. But eventually, it will change to him getting his teeth pulled. They will show him without his front teeth.

Following his role in "King and I", Ahn Kil-kang drew attention when he shaved his head for his role of a fake Buddhist monk. In "Iljimae", he has the important role of Bong-soon's (Lee Yeong-ah) adoptive father and martial arts teacher to Iljimae.

In 2008, two 'Iljimae's will find the home theater.

The SBS historical drama "Iljimae", starring Lee Joon-ki, will air from the 21st after "On Air". In response, MBC is airing drama "Iljimae", starring Lee Seung-gi, at the end of the year. Attack on TV Star Renews Old Fears

A violent attack on popular TV entertainer No Hong-chul just two months after actress Lee Seung-shin was assaulted by a stalker has again struck fear in Korea's entertainment industry.

Police said that a man identified only by his surname Kim waited for No in front of No's apartment in Apgujeong, Seoul on Tuesday night and beat him when the entertainer returned home.

No suffered a cut to his left ear and a bruise on his face. He is now receiving treatment at a hospital in Seoul.

The attacker was arrested on the scene after a neighbor who witnessed the assault called the police. The attacker reportedly was carrying a knife in the pocket of his jacket.

Police said that the attacker told them that he recently had to quit his job because of mental illness, but they are still questioning him to discern his motive.

Not all the films conquering the movie screens of the world are about flying spiders. Look around and you will find film festivals with a feast of small films with bigger ideas, such as the Indie Forum and Cinehue Orchestra, both of which start tomorrow in downtown Seoul. From dead serious documentaries to clever animations, the festivals offer a fresh palate for moviegoers who feel fatigued by the man-boy arachnids that have devoured multiplex theaters.
Some of the films may get an opportunity to appear in commercial theaters, but as their chances are slim, a trip to the arthouse theater is worth the effort, although they may not offer a bucket of pop corn with large cup of soda.
