SBS Drama "Spring Day" A Case of Reinventing The Wheel" Redefining The Story Telling Way & Drama Production |

Dear Mr Kim Gyoo-Wan,
Greetings from Singapore!
May I express my heartfelt thanks and deep appreciation to K-drama for continuing to enrich our lives with its inspiring scripts & imparting in us good enduring Asian values and life skills. Watching K-drama is like reading an e-literature book !
Sincerely believe the time has come for Asia to tell our story from Asian perspective and led by K-drama.
I was prompted to buy "Spring Day" VCDs because I would like to appreciate Mr Ji Jin-Hee's acting skills in modern drama after watching "Jewel In The Palace" Secondly as I haven't seen real Spring Season before thought I could perhaps watch its beauty in Spring Day !
Although can't see Spring season, I was deeply impressed by the script and all casts' performance upfront and the technical team behind the camera for the following reasons:
1)Reinventing Triangular (3-person Relationship)
"Spring Day" storyline is unique as it involves 2 guys and 1 woman whereby the 2 guys happen to be "silbings" (step-brothers). Usually in the old drama scripts, they are not related.Seems that this formula sells as another new SBS drama "Hanoi Bride" is also involving 2 brothers falling for the same girl ....
2) Sweet & Innocent Childhood Memories
Another eye opener for me is that in Spring Day, childhood stories are being told and acted out by adult actors which is very creative indeed! This is due to the fact that the elder brother's memories stood at his childhood age due to an accident. As such one can also appreciate the versatile acting skills of the cast as well....very refreshing and truly a great visual treat, not forgetting the great cinematography K-drama is famous for (ie drama art)
3)Role of the Mother
With great respect, I believe this love story revolves round the role and impact of one's mother whereby one can see the various drama characters' lives are connected to his/her mother.Every male/female character appears for a reason and his/her role is very well linked to the other and the whole script which I 'm very impressed indeed. In the end a seamless script indeed.Congratulations!
4) Romantic relationship from a child's perpsective
Another refreshing aspect I had discovered is the way a romantic relationship is being built up to its highest and intense level which is also revolving round a sweet & innocent way eg from a child's play as set in the moving scene where the child whose mother had left him for the city and the script was written in such a beautiful way of showing how his "suffering" had unexpectedly "blessed" the lead actress (Ms Ko Hyeon-Jeong) and lead actor (Mr Jo In-Seong)by enhancing their relationship!
5)Men's Tears From Beginning To The End
"Spring Day" is also the first drama I have watched with male characters shedding tears very intensely right from episode 1...There's a Chinese saying that heroes shed blood but not tears" in period fighting Chinese dramas. However, in K-drama perhaps the interpretation is different as it could be due to the harsh facts of live and also in part due to Korea's civilisation with due respect.
6)Moving Music
Thank you too for the moving soulful music and songs whereby they are being played at the right time...and right music selected to enhance the drama mood which really lift up our spirits. The drama music on every opening of each episode is truly a classic piece which has touched our hearts and minds like we are attending an orchestra concert.
7)Reverse Engineering Way of Telling A Story
Another discovery is the way each episode story is being linked from episode 1 to 2 to 3 etc etc etc. The conventional way is to begin where the last scene ends at the previous episode. However, in Spring Day, I noticed that somehow we were shown some advance scenes in the concluding episode and at the beginning of the next episode that advance scenes will be seen later and not at the opening of the next episode.......As such I feel K-dramas have also "trained" us to think in depth and to be observant too.
8)The Ultimate Test of Brotherhood - A Painful Triangular Love Story Through Asian Eyes
I find this triangular love story unique as it utlimately tests out the brotherly spirit between the two brothers. As rivals in love, falling for the same girl has also enabled the brothers to clear their misunderstanding in their childhood days which further reinforces the bond between them. One can also see how the two brothers manage their brotherly relationship after knowing their love for the same girl and towards the end it's "blood is thicker than water" prevails over romance which utlimately led to the elder brother giving way after knowing the true feelings of the girl revealed to the audience only in episode 18....keeping the audience in suspense almost towards the end of the drama !
9)Conclusion
Mr Kim, may I also take this opportunity to convey my heartfelt thanks for your creative way of writing the love story "Spring Day" and after much thoughts I think I now know why it's being entitled "Spring Day" because the story is being told from a child's innocent, sweet & refreshing setting just like Spring season despite the teary packaging of the whole drama.
With best wishes and regards to one & all in "Spring Day" drama team.

Dear Fong,
Printed out your input to the web page and read it on my way home from office. I really want to watch this "Spring Day" after I read yours.
Also very impressed that you pointed out so many aspects in this drama. By the way, my China friend bought me some Korean drama DVD, but I have not received them yet.Hoping that they are as good as "Spring Day".
Regards,
Violet Du (Ms)
