Having well-known singers and actors on theater stage is a formula for success in musicals and plays, but the trend has become so prevalent that it seems almost passe.
Still, public attention was generated when two members of the popular Korean boy band Super Junior -- Kang In and Kim Hee-cheol -- decided to make their musical debut in "Xanadu", sharing the lead role.
The show -- a 1960s movie turned into a Broadway musical about a muse who comes to the human world and finds true love -- seemed to be a perfect match for the pop idols.
Although Super Junior fans eagerly awaited the musical, there was a lingering doubt about whether the two young stars would be able to sing and act in the theater.

Music entertainment giant SM Entertainment Group announced recently the establishment of an affiliate that will focus on businesses related to the musical genre -- and they're bringing super-sexy boy-band Super Junior along for the ride.
With former comedian and singer Pyo In-bong taking the helm as co-CEO, SM Art Company -- as the affiliate is called -- will pursue businesses in organizing and creating diverse performances including musicals, as well as operating theaters, SM Entertainment officials said.
"With the artists and global networking that SM Entertainment has, along with our well-organized performance producing system, SM Art Co. plans to become one of the best performance entertainment businesses in Asia", Pyo said at the press conference in Seoul on May 28.

S.M. Pictures of S.M. Entertainment, the production company that pumped out K-pop icons like BoA, H.O.T. and S.E.S., didn't have to look far for casting stars of their first filmmaking venture. Featuring all 13 members of the super-sized boy band Super Junior -- and a panda bear, "Attack on the Pin-Up Boys" is, well, super-sized.
With grossly exaggerated yet believable dialogue and flashy after effects (graphic images, like hearts popping out of characters' eyes), "Attack" is over the top. Instead of falling into the trap of traditional Korean idol films, this teen movie plunges directly into them -- by fully "exploiting" pretty faces, it manages to pull together something surprisingly bemusing.

Super Junior, one of the most popular boy bands in K-pop, is making their big screen debut with the film "Attack on the Pin-up Boys" this month.
At first glance, the film may seem like another "idol movie" meant to show off the charms of Super Junior's good-looking members, rather than their acting ability.
However, Park Jeong-su, the group's leader who is also known as Lee Teuk, said he hopes people would not judge the film as just an "idol movie". "Since we debuted (as a group), we announced we will work not just as singers, but also as MCs and actors. I hope people will get rid of their prejudices a little, and watch us as new actors, not as singers", he said, during the film's press conference at Imperial Palace Hotel in Apgujeong, Thursday.
