Park Kyung-ni's novels are considered to be classics, and the fact that her works are revived time after time onscreen is one proof of this. Screen adaptations for both movies and TV soap operas show the enduring quality of her work.

Park's most celebrated novel "Toji, the Land" was adapted onscreen numerous times. It is often considered a timeless historical novel, and even a cartoon version was published last year. Told in five parts over 16 volumes, it portrays the social climate of the early 20th century. But tracing the lives, loves and sorrow of peasants and nobilities, "Land" features universal themes that still appeal to people today.

The story appeared as a movie in 1974, starring veteran actor Lee Soon-jae. It inspired three television soaps in 1979, 1986 and 2004 respectively. The latest version was particularly significant as it followed the publication of the fifth and final episode of the epic work in 1994.

Paparazzi aim to put Korean celebs in the frame

Kim Yoon-jin, an actress from the ABC series "Lost", recently told Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd on the CTV daytime talk show "The View" that being a star in Korea is different from Hollywood, because you are not stalked by paparazzi here.
Kim Hyeon-joo, another hallyu actress, confessed her bitter experience during a media tour to Hong Kong, when local paparazzi for a magazine sneaked into her hotel room and took pictures of discarded junk in her trash can.
Significantly, though, the paparazzi situation has alerted entertainment management companies in Korea. Local tabloids increasingly take paparazzi pictures of celebrities' private lives or print photos off the stars' personal blogs without their consent.
"It causes an extra burden on female celebrities, because the Korean public can be very cruel and conservative", says Lee Jeong-hun, an agent at Yedang Entertainment representing the Korean actress Han Ji-hye.
"A single photo is enough to dampen a career", Lee says.

Would KBS 'In Soon is Pretty' be remade in America?

Kim Hyeon-joo's KBS 2TV drama, 'In-soon is Pretty' (Script by Jeong Yoo-kyeong and director by Pyo Min-soo) received a proposal from an American agency to remake the drama. The spokesman from Kim Jung-hak Production said, "The American Agency, SM Entertainment proposed to buy the copyright. At the moment, we are dealing with the price and other finer details".
The American importers are interested in 'In-soon is Pretty"s original plot and wants to buy the copyrights to remake it into a film. The drama 'In Soon is Pretty' is the story of a woman, whose life is dramatically upturned after accidentally kill a person and became a criminal, but never gives up to find happiness after she was discharged from jail.
