Top directors assemble for short film fest's jury

The Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival (MSFF) assigned a high profile jury consisting of Korea's leading mainstream and independent directors. PARK Jin-pyo heads a jury further comprised of: KIM Tae-yong, KIM Yong-hwa, JO Chang-ho, KIM Hyeon-seok, KIM Tae-sik, KIM Han-min, JEON Gye-soo, CHOI Dong-hoon, and NA Hong-jin.

The Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival will open its doors on June 26 at Yongsan CGV in Seoul. The festival will finish on July 2. Among the upcoming directors, the festival also screens actor YOO Ji-tae's directorial short film effort "Out of My Intention" (Nado Moreuge) in the competition section.

PARK Jin-pyo directed "You Are My Sunshine" (Neoneun Nae Woonmyeong) and "Voice of Murderer" (Geu Nom Moksori). Korean Films Premiering at 9th JIFF

Ten Korean features will have their World Premiere at the Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF) this spring. Now in it's 9th edition the festival will run May 1st – 9th in the attractive and historical city of Jeonju, in North Jeolla province.

Korean highlights include documentary director KIM Dong-won's latest, "63 Years On", about the 'comfort women' enslaved by the Japanese military in stations across Asia during WW2. The film provides an historical investigation along with interviews with victims still living in Korea, China, and the Philippines. KIM is best known for his 2003 film Repatriation which raised the documentary genre to commercial prominence in South Korea.

In the Korean Cinema on the Move section, presents 10 new independent features mostly by debut directors. Korean Films at Shanghai Int. Film Festival

A record 11 Korean features will be shown in the official selection of this years 9th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) to take place June 17th to the 25th. Among them PARK Jin-pyo's 2005 film You Are My Sunshine will run in the official competition section for the Jin Jue Award. Another Korean film, Jo Chang-ho's The Peter Pan Formula has been selected as a candidate for the Asian New Talent Award.

Two Korean directors KWAK Gyeong-Taek ("Friend", "Typhoon") and BONG Joon-ho ("The Host", "Memories of Murder") have been invited to sit on the Jin Jue Award jury which will this year be presided over by French director Luc Besson. Other directors on the jury include Stanly Kwan and Gabriella Salvatores.

When romance meets camera tricks

In the movie "When Romance Meets Destiny", Il-woong, an "experienced" buddy of the film's two main heroes, shyly admits that most men are looking for two kinds of women ― those they can love below their belly button and those they can love above it.
Indeed in this romantic comedy about the male psyche, Kim Hyun-seok divides the male gender into two categories ― those who seek romance with a sense of purity and those who seek it in lust.
The film concerns two brothers who are polar opposites. The first part tells the story of Gwang-sik (Kim Joo-hyeok), a studio photographer who is too shy and timid to confess his feelings to a woman he's had a crush on for nearly seven years.
The dictionary of romance for his younger brother, Gwang-tae (Bong Tae-gyu), on the other hand, begins with sex and ends with sex.
Both fail, however, when it comes to women whom they believe are the destined loves.

Male Love: Instinct and Innocence

Simply put, the movie "Kwang-shik's Brother, Kwang-tae" - "When Romance Meets Destiny" (directed by Kim Hyeon-seok), which premiered on November 23, focuses on how men regard love.

The two main characters, innocent Kwang-shik (Kim Joo-hyeok) and playboy Kwang-tae (Bong Tae-gyu) are brothers. The movie shows how these two very different love, and exposes men's innermost feelings which women often have misunderstandings of.

The movie shows that man is an animal that is both extremely innocent and wild, and that has both sincere and evil intentions.

Kwang-shik and Kwang-tae are as different as day and night, but they have one thing in common. Both have never said "I love you" in their entire lives: one because he is too innocent, and the other because he is such a player. This movie is convincing because it exposes the fact that men sometimes turn into Kwang-shiks and sometimes into Kwang-taes.
