From TV ad to social drama

It was not an expected career move.
Model-turned-actress Seo Dan-bi became a household name when she fronted the television ad for KTF mobile phones.
But her latest project was live theater, among a cast of actors with disabilities.
Seo, 23, appeared in "Angels Without Wings", which was staged at Nowon Art Center last week.
"Working with disabled actors has been a thoroughly rewarding experience", said Seo.
Since her debut in 2006, Seo has mostly appeared in television commercials, including, most famously, the KTF commercial. The theater show couldn't be more different.
Her fellow actors are Kim In-moon, 69, and Kil Byul-eun, both survivors of debilitating strokes that affected their movement, and Kang Min-hwi who has Down's syndrome.
People with disabilities are not in the mainstream of society, partly because of social prejudices, Seo said, but she found that her fellow actors were able to convey a deeper and more diverse range of emotions on stage.

"Nobody knew me on the island"

A serial killer haunts the 17 residents of a small Island named Geuklakdo (Geuklak Island). Everyone is treated as a suspect, yet no one knows who will be the next victim. The mystery begins to unravel as the islanders launch an investigation of their own, led by Je Woo-sung, head of the local health authority.

"The movie director told me he took his inspiration from a story he heard from a friend long time ago. So I guess the movie is not a complete work of fiction, but at the same time, I can't say it is based on an actual case. It's really up to the audience to decide for themselves".

The movie 'Paradise 1986' is not the first thriller for movie star Park Hae-il. In the 'Memories of Murder', released in 2003, Park appeared as a mysterious gentleman who the viewers could not readily identify as being guilty or innocent. "Le Parisien" Introduces Two S. Korean Movies as N. Korean Films

Le Parisien, a leading French daily alongside the respected Le Monde, has introduced two South Korean movies, "A Good Lawyer's Wife" directed by Lim Sang-soo and "Woman Is the Future of Man" directed by Hong Sang-soo, as North Korean films. This misrepresentation has caused shock waves in the South Korean movie industry.

The film section of the Apr. 6 internet edition of Le Parisien incorrectly identified the country of origin of "A Good Lawyer's Wife (French title: Une Femme Coreenne)" as "Coree du Nord" (North Korea).

Le Parisien correctly introduced the movie's English title and its lead actors and actresses, namely Moon So-ri, Hwang Jeong-min, Yoon Yeo-jeong, and Kim In-moon. But the movie's country of origin should have read "Coree du Sud" (South Korea). The movie was released in French movie theaters on Apr. 6.

'Love So Divine' embraces light romance

Forbidden love can be the most passionate - and the most destructive. An affair between a priest and a young, beautiful girl is very likely to spark controversy in the Catholic Church. But "Love, So Divine", released nationwide yesterday, does not have such "controversial" elements.
In the film, Kyu-sik (Kwone Sang-woo) is an exemplary theological student. In a month, he will be ordained and become priest, a dream he has pursued for years. But God throws him into an embarrassing situation: Because of his trouble-making friend Sun-dal (Kim In-kwon), Kyu-sik makes a grave mistake during a formal ceremony at church.

The school authorities order the two to spend a month at a small church in a remote village, offering them a chance to restore and strengthen their commitment.

But things don't go as planned, especially when the priest-to-be in question is terribly handsome - actor Kwone is Korea's top-rated heartthrob and his popularity is literally soaring.
