In timeless stories, the evil characters are as famous as the main characters that they bother. But the stronger and more evil the character is, it is a bigger harm to the image of an actor.

This is why famous actors didn't take on evil roles, and new or unknown actors who wanted to leave a lasting impression took on these roles.

The actress who has received the most recognition for her evil role is Song Yoon-ah. In "Mister Q", she bothered Kim Hee-seon, the female lead, for Kim Min-jong. Viewers remembered her for her evil role, but now, she is receiving lots of love for her great acting in various roles.

Singer Kang Ta Begins Military Duty in Euijeongbu

Singer Kang Ta (29) officially began his military duties on April 1 in Euijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province.

Kang Ta held a farewell concert for his fans at the Main Hall of Yonsei University late last month. The day he was stationed at his military base, Kang Ta, showing off a short crew cut, said goodbye to his fans and said he will diligently fulfill his military duties.

Korean fans as well as Japanese, Chinese and Thai fans flocked to the military base to say goodbye to their favorite singer. Fellow members of group S, Shin Hye-sung and Lee Ji-hoon, as well as singer Kim Min-jong, also a member of SM Entertainment, were on hand to wish good luck to their friend.

Kang Ta is the third member of H.O.T--after Moon Hee-joon and Jang Woo-hyuk--to begin his military duty.

Stars Join in Mourning for Death of Actor's Brother

Numerous celebrities have joined in mourning for hallyu star Lee Dong-geon's brother at a chapel in Samsung Medical Center in southern Seoul.

Lee's brother, Lee Joon-yub, 19, was fatally stabbed near the World Square Shopping center in Sydney, Australia, March 20. He and his friend, who were both studying in Sydney, were attacked during an argument with two Chinese gang members. The 19-year-old's body was cremated in Sydney on March 26 and Lee brought back his brother's ashes to Seoul on March 28.

Actors and actresses, close to Lee, visited the chapel to convey their condolences over his brother's death.

Han Ji-hye, Lee's ex-girlfriend, visited the chapel and grieved with Lee and his family. She burst into tears at the sight of the brother's portrait.

Han was told the news after filming "Likable or Not" ("I Hate You, But It's Fine") a local hit drama ― now airing on KBS, and rushed to the hospital.

Local Cable TV Produces Dramas

Since "Sex and the City" and "The Sopranos", two dramas produced and originally aired on the American cable network HBO, were first shown here several years ago, they have fast become household names.

Fans' postings, which flood Internet message boards, show that fans watch the programs because of their tight-knit plots and well-developed characters.

However, only recently has cable TV started airing dramas _ an area long considered a terrestrial broadcaster-dominated realm _ with premium movie channel OCN emerging as the leader.

With easy access to well-made foreign series and an abundance of locally produced programs, audiences are looking for more.

Not long after "Freeze", a star-studded four-episode series depicting the love of a human and a vampire, was aired last month, OCN launched another made-for-cable series.

The latest, a full-length miniseries (16-episodes) titled "Someday", was launched earlier this month.

Slack record market pushes singers into new career

A new trend is taking over TV land, with entertainers freely crossing over from singing to acting and vice versa. While versatile entertainers like Uhm Jung-hwa, Im Chang-jeong and Kim Min-jong took on both roles in the 1980s and 90s due to their talent in both areas, younger entertainers now choose to do both as a "survival strategy".

Singers "Rain", Eugene ("Yoo Jin"), Jeong Ryeo-won and Eric Moon are now regarded as competitive rising actors and actresses after their successful acting debuts this year. With a surging number of singers aiming for the same success, the current trend is expected to stay through the coming years.

Amid the ongoing slump in the music industry, it has become harder for singers to make a living with their singing careers only.
