Chuseok Events at Lotte Cinema

Why not enjoy traditional Chuseok games at the theater? Lotte Cinema is offering moviegoers not only the latest films but also games in its multiplex theaters, Sept. 24-26.

Jegichagi is a simple game of kicking a jegi, a feathered ball, with your inner heal, keeping it in the air for as long as you can. Couples can participate in a jegichagi competition and win prizes at Lotte Cinema Avenuel near Myeong-dong.

Family and friends can enjoy a super sized board game of yutnori at Lotte Cinema theaters located near Kunkook University and Nowon on subway line 7.

Also, Lotte Cinema Nowon offers free gifts to children visiting the theater wearing hanbok or traditional Korean clothes during the Chuseok weekend. Seongnam, Guri and Byeongjeom chains will give out gifts to all guests wearing hanbok on a first-come first-serve basis.

Korean films line up for Chuseok holiday

The summer season has been dominated by Hollywood blockbusters, but a wide collection of Korean films are lining up for a release during the Chuseok holiday in September.

The holiday, which will effectively last from September 22 to 26, is traditionally one of the busiest times of the year at the local box office. With many big hits having been launched during Chuseok in past years, attention is focusing on which of this year's films may have the potential to break out.

Local distributors CJ Entertainment, Lotte Entertainment, Showbox, and Cinema Service have each lined up a film for release, while Hollywood branch office Fox will also distribute one Korean title.

CJ's selection is "The Happy Life" by director LEE Joon-ik, who has acquired star status in Korea after box office smash "The King and the Clown" and word-of-mouth hit "Radio Star" in 2006. The 8th Shanghai International Film Festival invites a total of 7 Korean movies

A total of 7 Korean moviesare being screened right now in the 8th Shanghai International Film Festival, which will be continued by June 19.

In its Asian New Talent Award, first off 'My Brother' directed by Ahn Kwon-tae, unfolds a synopsis in which The younger brother, Jong-hyeon is a good-looking, class-A fighter. The older brother, Seong-hyeon is tender and pure, a class-A student.

They've been fighting nearly for 17 years. Trouble began when their mother favored Seong-hyeon over his younger brother. Round two began when both brothers fell for the same girl, Mi-ryeong.

When the long-simmering emotions finally explode and a huge fight breaks out, Seong-hyeon tells his younger brother something he had never been able to say before: "Jong-hyeon, would you call me hyeong just once? I've never heard it before from you..".

"Hyeong" - the word that younger Korea brothers call their older brothers. And yet Jong-hyeon has never said it to his brother.

Disney dream comes true for Korean animator

May 13, 2005 ㅡ Pixar Animation Studios and Dreamworks SKG have dominated three-dimensional animation, riding the success of feature-length animations such as "Toy Story" and "Shrek". Disney, however, has been relegated to distributing Pixar productions.
But the first full-fledged animated 3-D movie by Disney, "Chicken Little", might change that. And a Korean man is partly in charge of Disney's new challenge.
Kim Sang-jin, 46, is a lead animator, doing the primary drawings for the film that are then embellished by other artists. After the production for "Chicken Little", which will be released in November, Mr. Kim is working on character designs for the company's next 3-D animation project, "Rapunzel", which will premiere in 2008.
Despite his busy schedule, Mr. Kim took time last month for an interview at Disney's studio in Burbank near Los Angeles. Mr. Kim is developing different characters for "Rapunzel".

Director refuses to get serious

October 20, 2004 ㅡ When movie director Kim Sang-jin was asked why his movies always sell millions of tickets, his answer was, "Because I make them well".
He won't take the bait when invited to comment on reviews that say his newest comic horror movie, "Guishini Sanda", or "Ghost House", is disappointing compared to his previous work.
"I thank those who have watched all of my movies and compare them", he replied.
Mr. Kim, 36, is famous for making movies that make people laugh. "Juyuso Seupgyeoksageon!" (Attack the Gas Station!) in 1999, "Shillaui Dalbam" (Kick the Moon) in 2001, and "Gwangbokjeol Teuksa" (Jail Breakers - No. 815) in 2002 are his most successful pictures. "Guishini Sanda" opened on Sept. 17 and sold more than 2.4 million tickets in two weeks.
