'Taekwon V' Exhibit Kicks Off in Gyeongju

The "Contemporary Art Meets Nuclear Power - Taekwon V's Search for Nuclear Power" exhibit opened at the Nuclear Power Park in Yangnam-myeon in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province on September 19.

The exhibit, which is being held as a part of the National Museum of Contemporary Art's "Visiting Museum" program, will be held until October 31 and will feature installations and sculptures by 22 leading Korean artists.

The works include the "Robot Taekwon V" series by artist Kim Seok as well as 40 other pieces. "Hwainhoe", a regional art society made up of local citizenry, will also display their artworks during the exhibit period....| More

Kim Seon-ah Officially Casted In Movie "Girl Scouts"

Kim Seon-ah, who gained top star status after the success of the drama "My Lovely Sam Soon", has confirmed to appear in the movie "Girl Scouts" (by director Kim Sang Man).

After "My Lovely Sam Soon" ("My Name is Kim Sam-soon"), Kim Seon-ah said that she had agreed to appear in "Thursday's Child" last May. But even after the filming started last September, due to the change of directors and production problems, her agency had cancelled her contract with the movie. "Thursday's Child" is directed by director Won Sin-yeon of the movie "A Bloody Aria", and the movie was changed to "Seven Days" with a change in the theme. This movie had also casted Kim Yoon-jin and Kim Mi-sook.

Meanwhile, "Girl Scouts" is a movie with a comic touch and is a criminal drama. When the head of a credit union disappears with millions of dollars of the credit union's money, four women create a team called "Bong Chon Girl Scouts Troop #3" to recover the stolen money and chaos ensues.

When I Turned Nine unexpected winner of Chunsa Film Art Awards

When I Turned Nine, a story about schoolchildren in rural Korea, came away the unexpected winner of the Chunsa Film Art Awards on November 19.

The film by YOON In-ho was presented withthe Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay (LEE Man-hee), and the Child Acting Award (shared by LEE Se-yeong, KIM Seok, NAH A-hyeon and KIM Myeong-jae). Released in March 2004, When I Was Nine attracted 340,000 viewers and a warm critical reception upon its release.

Meanwhile Cannes Grand Prix-winner Old Boy by PARK Chan-wook was given the Best Actor award (CHOI Min-sik), Best Cinematography (JEONG Jeong-hoon), Editing (KIM Sang-beom), and a Special Jury Prize for PARK Chan-wook shared by Tae Guk Gi's KANG Je-gyu and Silmido's KANG Woo-seok.

Life's Little Melodramas at Age 9

With their exaggerated relationships and overblown plots, there's something unrealistic, immature and, for many of us, slightly addictive about the romances portrayed in popular television dramas. "Ahopsal Insaeng (When I Turned Nine)", a new film opening today, literally brings out this childish side of melodramas in its look at life and love in an elementary school during the 1970s.

Though ostensibly a children's movie, "Nine" seems more of a film that adults would be interested in than younger viewers. A lot of the poignancy of the story stems from watching children maneuver the complicated waters of their feelings with the seriousness of adults.

The storyline follows your basic blueprint for romantic dramas.
