I was prompted to buy "Spring Days" VCDs mainly because I would like to appreciate Mr Ji Jin-Hee's acting skills in a modern drama after watching his role as "Da-Ren" in "Jewel In The Palace".
Another reason was due to the fact that I have yet to see real Spring season and thought that I would have the chance to see its beauty captured in "Spring Days".
Although there's no Spring season captured in this drama, I have had the privilege in getting to know you : your compelling, intense and silent acting skills in bringing to live the character you played in "Spring Days".
2)Good Role Model
The character you have to play is not easy as one really needs to know how to manage,control and suppress one's emotions in different situations such as:
a)As a child being abandoned by her mother resulting in a "closed-up" person to the outside world
b)As a responsible person who returns the goodwill to the man who has awakened her senses to the external world and to become "human" all over again
c)As a sensitive and tactful person in managing the affairs of her heart when sandwiched between 2 brothers. As such the audience do not see situations of "one leg stepping on two boats" quoting from a Chinese saying resulting in disharmony between the 2 brothers.
Instead what we see is an eventual reconciliation between the two brothers resulting in the elder brother ultimately opting out of this painful triangular love relationship and much against his manly pride, tells his younger brother where your heart lies.
3)Responsible Love Story
"Spring days" is truly a classic example of a love story written from an Asian perspective connecting the spirit of brotherhood with matters of the heart topped up by a sweet and innocent childhood setting as well.
Although in reality it's difficult to find such a pure romance in a less complicated world whereby people also seems to have time for romance, I find this drama "Spring Days" has imparted in us good enduring family values to influence us to value relationships especially our mothers and to feel blessed as well.
In addition I have always been thankful to K-dramas romantic storylines which usually touch human romantic relationship from a responsible and deeper perspective beyond dollars and cents and physical contact. It's amazing that one can truly feel the intensity of the relationship just based on the facial expressions of the professional actors and actresses.
As such you don't feel you are watching a drama when it's K-drama as it's so naturally real and engaging that you just feel your soul has also gone into it. Really one must take a break in order to come back to reality before ending up like living in a drama world.
Not forgetting also the constant message of the need for men to exercise their basic manly responsibilites in taking care of their siblings and loved ones.
I think in today's world this message is important whereby married people have more opportunities to spend more time with their colleagues than their family members. "Distractions" galore is inevitable.
As such watching K-dramas is a good reminder to us about where our roles and responsibilites should be like attending a moral education class. Although reality is harsh and perfect relatioships is hard to come by, I sincerely believe K-dramas will guide us sub-consciously to build and work towards a less imperfect relationship so as not to be misguided in today's globalised village.
4)Conclusion
Ms Hyeon-jeong, thank you very much for a great job done and to K-dramas thank you for helping Asia to reinforce its Asian values and identity in the long run.
