It happened once again. People tear apart my heart countless times all throughout the year and I also unconsciously hurt others. And they are mostly someone very close to me.

It is now time to heal these wounds and to prepare for a new year. So, how about wrapping up the year while watching movies that would heal the scars on your hearts?

"Bravo, My Life", ("Mommy, Dearest") is a coming-of-age film set in 1979. In the movie, first-year middle school student Gwang-ho (Lee Jae-eung) lives with his sister and mother (Moon So-ri) who sells cosmetics by visiting houses door to door. The movie is about Gwang-ho, who is in the adolescent period and talks rudely to his mother such as, "How come you are so ignorant", and "Get out of here". And it is also about things happening around the family. The scenery is heartwarming and makes us reminiscent of our past.

Korea Wins Six at Asia Pacific Film Fest

South Korean films won the majority of the awards at the 51st Asia Pacific Film Festival which concluded November 25th in Taipei after a four day run. All-time record holder "The Host" did extremely well, winning three awards: Best Editing for KIM Sun-min, Best Sound for CHOI Tae-yeong, and Best Supporting Actor for BYEON Hee-bong.

Both Best Actor and Actress awards were won by South Koreans. Child actor LEE Jae-eung took the Best Actor award for his central role in "Bravo, My Life" ("Mommy, Dearest"). Actress SON Ye-jin picked up an award for her lead role in melodrama "April Snow" by director HEO Jin-ho.

Finally, director SEON Ji-yeon took the Best Short Film award for Atomic Punch, My Darling. A seven-member jury headed by Taiwanese director Hsing Lee judged the films.

The purpose of the festival is to promote the regional film industry and strengthen ties in the Asia-Pacific filmmaking community.

Korea Dominates Asia-Pacific Film Festival

Korean films have won the most awards at the 51st Asia-Pacific Film Festival in Taiwan.

Actor Lee Jae-eung won the Best Actor award for his role in "Bravo, My Life" ("Mommy, Dearest"), while Best Actress was Son Ye-jin for "April Snow".

The Korean blockbuster monster film "The Host" received the awards for Best Supporting Actor, Best Editing and Best Sound Effects.

Fifty-four movies from 13 countries competed at the film festival.

Starring Song Kang-ho and Moon So-ri, the movie combines fact and fiction to recreate Seoul in the 1960s and '70s. It takes that politically volatile period that includes the nation's chaotic first presidential election, ceaseless civic demonstrations, the authoritarian rule of Park Chung-hee and a McCarthy-esque fear of everything Communist and filters it through the experience of Han-mo (played by Song), a simpleminded barber who owns a shop next to Chong Wa Dae. Becoming the barber for President Park and his staff members fills Hanmo with pride, but the duties end up involving the barber and his family in internal political struggles. "Many homes had attics then. Children would hide there to read comic books, or daydream over whether "mom will be sad when I die" after being punished by their parents.

Those were the days.

During kimchi season, mom would preserve more than 100 cabbages in the front yard, and from time to time, schoolgirls would scream over a dead rat that had eaten rat poison in an alley. There were assemblies every Monday morning in school, and we would go to the movies after midterms. We also cleaned toilets and received other disciplinary punishments.
