Seven Korean Films to Be Shown on American TV

Seven Korean films, including "Old Boy" and "Samaria", will be shown on an American cable TV network.

Kim Ji-suk, a programmer of the Pusan International Film Festival, said on Mar. 3, "Sundance, an influential movie channel in the United States, has recently bought the televising rights to a total of eight Asian films, including seven Korean movies, from the distribution agency Tartan. No televising schedule has been fixed yet. But a decision has been tentatively made to air them during prime time on Sundays".

The Korean movies that will be shown on the Sundance network will be "Old Boy" (2003) and "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" (2005) directed by Park Chan-wook; "Samaria" (2004) directed by Kim Ki-duk; "A Tale of Two Sisters" (2003) directed by Kim Ji-woon: "H" (2002) directed by Lee Jong-hyeok; "Memento Mori" (1999) directed jointly by Kim Tae-yong and Min Gyoo-dong; and "Phone" (2002) directed by Ahn Byeong-ki. Four Korean films selected for Fantasporto

Four Korean films have been selected to screen at the Oporto International Fantastic Film Festival in Portugal, more commonly known as Fantasporto. The festival's 28th edition will feature PARK Ki-hyeong's "Acacia", KIM Ji-woon's A Tale of Two Sisters, and LEE Jong-hyeok's "H" in its main competition section, as well as BAEK Woon-hak's "Tube" in a special competitive section for new directors.

Fantasporto is one of the world's most widely-known "fantastic" film festivals, devoted to genre cinema in general and horror/sci-fi in particular. This year's edition will be held from February 20-28.

In past years the festival has bestowed several awards on Korean cinema, including a Special Jury Prize for KIM Ki-duk's "The Isle" in 2000, a Best Actress award for Seo Jeong (The Isle), as well as a Best Director (YOON Jong-chan), Special Jury Prize and Best Actress (JANG Jin-yeong) award for "Sorum" in 2001. Hawaii festival invites 7 Korean films

The Hawaii International Film Festival, held on various islands throughout the state of Hawaii, has invited seven Korean films to screen in its 23rd edition.

BAEK Woon-hak's "Tube" and JeoNG Yoon-soo's "Yesterday" will form part of a section titled "Action Asia", while box-office hit My Tutor Friend by Kim Hyeong-hyoong will screen as a Gala Presentation.

Meanwhile, a Spotlight on Korea section will feature four films: "H" (dir. LEE Jong-hyeok), Memories of Murder (dir. BONG Joon-ho), Save the Green Planet! (dir. JANG Joon-hwan), and "Season in the Sun" (dir. LEE Min-yong).
