Web Site Targets Fans of Celebrity Style

Celebrities are undeniably today's style icons. Everyone looks at what stars like Jennifer Lopez, Lindsay Lohan and Rhianna are wearing, to see what's hot in fashion this season.

Korean stars are also known for starting fashion trends that everyone follows. It's no wonder why many fashion companies are always after celebrities to promote their brands, and why many celebrities are also starting their own fashion brands.

A new Web site (http://www.starvista.co.kr) was launched last Friday, as a "celebrity-based premium brands select shop". Starvista encourages shoppers to "create your own style with the stars", through several new Korean clothing brands.

Celebrities such as Hwang Bo, Han Young, Lee Seon-jin and even B-boy team Gambler are endorsing Starvista's brands for women and men's clothes. It also has a line of kids' wear endorsed by celebrity couple Lee Jae-ryong and Yoo Ho-jeong.

Model Lee Seon-jin to Marry in January

Model Lee Seon-jin will tie the knot next month.

She broke the news Tuesday. She will marry a businessman two years her senior on Jan. 27 at the Central City Millennium Hall in Banpodong.

In a news conference Friday, she will unveil the full wedding story, from how the couple first met to when they decided to marry. Lael Wedding, chaired by comedian Park Soo-hong, is charged with the wedding ceremony.

Popular cable shows target single women

Women in their 20s and 30s are now in control of the remote and the commercial market.

While Korean network television is still struggling to air new entertainment for the masses, cable television is blazing its own trail, capturing audiences with a mix of foreign and local programs in tune with the tastes of its viewers ― mainly single women in their 30s and late 20s.
Although its shaky beginning in 1995 met plenty of skepticism, Korean cable television is now more popular than ever. With the launch of On Media corporation's On Style channel in early 2004, lifestyle programs and reality shows that deal with fashion, beauty and food ― targeted at financially stable single women ― have found a strong market. Other channels include Dongah TV and CJ Media's O'live network. According to ratings data by TNS Media, On Style scored an average of 0.172 in ratings in 2006, followed closely by O'live with 0.1 and Dongah TV with 0.025.

Models Pick Ryoo as Korean Wave Star

Actor Ryoo Si-won has been selected as the Korean Wave star chosen by models.

He will receive the prize at the 2006 Korea Model Festival Award on Friday evening at the JW Marriott Hotel in downtown Seoul. The event is being hosted by the Korea Model Association.

Three thousand Korean male and female models chose the honorees, including Ryoo, through votes.

The 'international exchange' award went to Japanese actress Aoi Miyazaki, and Korean actor Lee Jun-ki received the special Korean Wave award. The meritorious Korean Wave honor went to producer Yoon Seok-ho of the hit drama series "Winter Sonata".

Screen stars Jeong Joon-ho and Son Ye-jin were chosen as the best model-turned-actors for TV commercials, and Kim Sung-soo and Lee Seon-jin were recognized in the fashion model category. Actors Cheon Jeong-myeong, Kim Ah-joong and singers Park Sang-min, Bada and Son Ho-young received the popularity prize.
