Directed by Kim Seong-soo, this crime thriller deals with the relationship between a tough detective and cool-headed prosecutor. Starring the nation's top heartthrobs Kwon Sang-woo and Yoo Ji-tae, the movie depicts how man's violence and ruthlessness can turn into weapons of self-destruction. The movie teams up detective Jang Do-young (played by Kwon) and a bright prosecutor named Oh Jin-woo (Yoo), who take on crime boss Yu Kang-jin (Son Byeong-ho). Jang prefers fists to logic when handling criminals while Oh is meticulous in going after bad guys, emphasizing the importance of data and evidence.
But one thing that Jang and Oh share is a strong desire to pay back Yu. Jang's younger brother is killed by a hit man from the gang because he tries to blackmail Yu, and Oh was once pushed aside while investigating Yu, who has numerous connections with politicians. However, despite their teamwork, they slip int...| More

"Running Wild" recycles the masculine sentimentality of Hong Kong gangster flicks from the '80s.
It starts and ends with men smeared with blood, and fills everything in between with stabbing and chopping, on top of other actions that involve men in leather gloves and trench coats.
The story stars Oh Jin-woo (Kwon Sang-woo), a rowdy detective who has lost his stepbrother through a murder involving a gang led by Yu Gang-jin. Oh teams up with Jang Do-young (Yoo Ji-tae), a prosecutor, to crack down on the gang. But as the film nears its climax, Yu reaches out to his enemy's family, prompting instincts in two men (Oh and Jang) to "run wild".
The film is overwhelmed with ambiguous mafia speech that often seems out of touch.
The dialogue seems to be trying to make a certain point ― it just doesn't know which one.
In one scene, Oh pulls Jang's suit, yelling, "There are two things I hate the most in this world. One is cockroaches. The other is thugs. And you just called me a thug".

The formula for "buddy movies" is quite familiar here: Two good-looking actors who at first don't get along come together as they tackle some kind of problem or project. But whatever the problems, you can be sure of a "feel good" ending that ties things up.
The new crime thriller "Running Wild" (Yasu), which deals with the relationship between a tough detective and cool-headed prosecutor, could have stayed within these conventions, but towards the end its director takes a sudden unexpected turn in a darker direction.
Because of the rush to a stylish yet tragic conclusion, the dark turn causes moviegoers confusion and gives them a sense of emptiness rather than taking the film to a higher level than the average buddy movie.

Wolves in the wild don't roar in anger like lions do. But if they are caged, they will ram themselves against the bars again and again until they are bloody. Confinement reveals a beast's true nature.
The film Running Wild", directed by Kim Seong-soo and produced by Popcorn Films, may give the audience the impression that they are watching beasts. This hard-boiled movie shows how two men, a fiery detective and an icy prosecutor, turn into wild beasts while fighting against social evils. The movie is visually sensuous and filled with intense action scenes.
Jang Do-hyung (performed by Kwon Sang-woo) is a police detective in charge of violent crimes. He does what his fists say. Oh Jin-woo (performed by Yoo Ji-tae) is a perfectionist prosecutor. This unlikely duo joins forces to bring Yoo Gang-jin (performed by Son Byeong-ho), a boss of a gang called Guryongpa, to justice. But Yoo, who has enough power to allow him to flaunt the law, tells Jang and Oh to back off.

Kwon Sang-woo, Yoo Ji-tae Team Up for Crime Thriller 'Running Wild'
By Kim Tae-jong
Staff Reporter
Just hearing the big names starring in a film creates a high expectation of commercial success because of the response of teen fans to those names.
But stars Kwon Sang-woo and Yoo Ji-tae emphasize that their upcoming film "Running Wild (Yasu)" is a serious movie and not just a trendy film relying on their popularity.
"The movie will not appeal to audiences by satisfying trends through the popularity of Kwon and myself", Yoo said Tuesday during a news conference after the preview screening of "Running Wild" at Megabox theater in Seoul. "The movie itself is worth watching because of its own attractions".
As the movie received a rating of over 18, it is now obvious that the film's success will not be decided by teen fans of the two stars but its quality, Yoo added.
The two actors have proven their star power through they portrayal of various characters in hit movies and t...| More
