Song Seung-heon Draws Attention in Japan before Discharge

The Japanese media is paying keen attention to Korean actor Song Seung-heon, who is to be discharged from the military in November.

Sanspo.com, the online edition of the Sankei Sports, reported Monday that Song, the male lead of Korean dramas "An Autumn Fairytale" and "Summer Scent", will host an event to meet Asian fans on November 18 and 19 at Olympic Park in Seoul immediately after he is discharged on November 15.

Sansports.com said that the event will be held to mark the discharge of Song, with some 10,000 fans coming from seven Asian countries including Korea, Japan, China and Singapore. A fan meeting will be held on the first day and a special concert featuring singers who sang the title songs of the actor's dramas will be staged on the second day.

The online newspaper said that Song is the last major Korean celebrity to not have officially visited Japan, and that some 10,000 members have already joined his official Japanese homepage which was launched on July 19.

Yoon Seok-ho's Seasonal Series Dramas to Become Films

Two KBS hit dramas, "Autumn in My Heart" and "Winter Sonata", will be adapted into movies. Poibos, an entertainment company, said Wednesday that it signed an agreement on Monday with KBS Media to buy the copyright to "Autumn in My Heart" after securing the copyright to "Winter Sonata" in May.

Culture Cap Media, a Poibos associate, will produce the film versions of the dramas. The company has produced "My Little Bride" and "Jenny, Juno".

"Besides selecting a production company, no plans have yet been made in relation to making the movies", Poibos said. "We haven't decided who we will cast and whether we will change the story or not".

The dramas, produced by Yoon Seok-ho and written by Oh Soo-yeon, gained great popularity across Asia, making Song Seung-heon and Song Hye-kyo, who played the leading roles in "Autumn in My Heart", and Bae Yong-joon and Choi Ji-woo, the two stars in "Winter Sonata", rise to stardom in the entire Asia region.

Actor/Singer Ryoo Si-won to Tour Japan

TV star/singer Ryoo Si-won will launch a tour of seven Japanese cities for one month.

After releasing his third album, "Asian Blow", in May, Ryoo will give concerts entitled "Ryoo Si-won's Japanese Live Tour 2006" in Tokyo, Fukuoka, Osaka, Sendai, Niikata, Hiroshima and Nagoya.

The concerts will take place at the International Forum in Tokyo on June 13-14, at Sanbares in Fukuoka on June 19, at the Osaka International Convention Center in Osaka on June 21-22, at the Sendai Sun Plaza in Sendai on June 30, at the Hiroshima Pension Building in Hiroshima on July 3, at the Aichi Art Theater in Nagoya on July 8-9 and at the Budoukan in Tokyo again on July 11-12.

Some 70,000 spectators are expected to visit the concert, the largest audience any Korean singer or actor has ever drawn in Japan. Ryoo gave concerts successfully at Tokyo's Budokan and Osaka's International Convention Center in last November.

'Wedding': a bittersweet romantic comedy to explore what's important in marriage

"What do you consider the most important thing in marriage?" Seung-woo asks Senah during their first 'seon', a Korean term for match-made marriage meeting. Senah is dumbstruck by this question. She is a rich, pampered girl for whom marriage is a dreamy set-up, one of the steps she should naturally take in life with someone whom her parents choose for her.

Senah is desperate for the answer and returns the question to Seung-woo, who puts it plainly, as if it were so simple: "Love", he says. But who didn't know that? And if he's so sure, then why is he at a seon and not on the next plane to Japan where the love of his life is, about to marry someone else?

The point is that this bittersweet romantic-comedy TV series which poses fundamental questions about marriage and sets its goal "to revive the romantic fantasy of young people who have disillusioned notions about marriage", according to the director, in fact thrives on jaded notions of marriage.
