Biography

This year's A-lister - actor Park Hae-il is at it again! He has yet another hit production in the works, Park pulls a 180 for his upcoming role and we got to find out more in an EXCLUSIVE star focus!

Taking a step back into time, Park Hae-il reverts back into a young 13-year old boy enticed into a relationship with an older woman. The movie will open your eyes to a new kind of romance and Park's performance is set to blow people away in the film, "It goes to a boy heaven"!

Who would've guessed! Park Hae-il gave audiences a pleasant shock with his expert portrayal of 'the ultimate player' in his last production, "Rules of Dating". We had to give him a round of applause on that one.

After appearing in a theatrical performance, "Admiration of Heyday of Youth", Park had already been acknowledged as an up-and-coming actor, and with "Waikiki Brothers" in 2001, he made his official debut onto the silver screen.

Watching him unfurl his talent upon the acting community, moviemakers became infatuated with the star - showering him with casting calls. Park Hae-il was on top of the world, co-starring with only top actresses.

The lucky guy even starred opposite Jeon Do-yeon in the film, "My Mother The Mermaid (Little Mermaid", and with the beautiful Jang Jin-young for "The Scent of LoVE".
That was one melodrama that Park's fans STILL say is his best work yet.

In other words - he's just like the guy next door, or like the friend who will have a drink with you in the middle of the night.
Your average guy, but with a heart full of sincerity. This is something everyone that's worked with him knows, even in the music biz!

Not only does the movie industry adore Park, advertisers also find him to be endearing... He's sought after for top commercials and ads.
After "It goes to a boy heaven" is released, he's set to hit cloud nine once more.

A romantic fantasy that will have his fans cheering wildly in their seats!
This is no doubt going to be another amazing transformation for the chameleon-like actor, Park Hae-il.

Following the footsteps of "Radio Dayz", "Once Upon a Time" and "The Good, the Bad, the Weird" comes "Modern Boy", another purely entertainment-driven movie set during the Japanese colonial era (1910-45). Gyeongseong, the name of Seoul at the time, is home to flamboyant flappers (so-called "modern boys and girls"), radio stars and charming bandits who aren't necessarily working for Korea's independence.

The symbolic power of cinema is extensive, as it often showcases a given country's aesthetics, technical achievements and entertainment factors, and moreover portrays to varying degrees its cultural, historical and social values. Period pieces in particular become the subject of scrutiny as they speak for the shared history of a people.

A Japanese newspaper made a misleading report about "Modern Boy" and the above-mentioned Gyeongseong movies in January this year. Katsuhiro Kuroda, managing editor of Sankei Shimbun's Seoul branch, announced "the ...| More

"Portrait of a Beauty", a film about painter Shin Yun-bok of the Joseon era, was cited the most anticipated Korean movie this fall in a survey conducted by the film site Movist (http://www.movist.com). In the survey 994 out of 5485 respondents (18%) replied that this faction film was their number one choice for the fall movie.

Starring Kim Min-seon and Choo Ja-hyeon, "Portrait of a Beauty" is about a genius female painter, who had to disguise herself as a man to survive in the Confucian era, and the relationship she has with Kim Hong-do, another illustrious painter of the time and her mentor. The release date has not been determined yet, but it's certain to stir up huge interest in Korean painting, not to mention renewed enthusiasm for the long-struggling Korean film industry.

Following the "Portrait of a Beauty" in the survey were "My Dear Enemy", starring award-winning Jeon Do-yeon and Ha Jeong-woo, "Go Go 70s" with Sin Min-ah and Jo Seung-woo, "Truck" with Yoo Hae-jin, and "M...| More

Director Jeong Ji-woo's historical drama "Modern Boy" promises to be the highlight of this year's film calendar.

Set in 1937 Gyeongseong (old Seoul) when Korea was under Japanese occupation, it follows the story of Lee Hae-myung (played by Park Hae-il), a Korean civil servant with an extravagant lifestyle and a dress sense to match. As a self-proclaimed romanticist, his liberal approach to life defies the oppression and economic depression of the time, hence the film's title.

However, all is changed as he falls in love with the enchanting Cho Nan-sil (Kim Hye-soo), a mysterious bar-performer who proves to be a lot more than meets the eye. Lee Hae-myung suddenly finds that he is pit against the grand forces of history in a fight for his love.

On his choice of setting, director Jeong Ji-woo said that "it was an era wrought with economic trouble but still incredibly rich in culture, I thought it would provide a great setting for a movie", in the opening press conference at Apguje...| More

After six years in the making and a release date postponed by months, Jeong Ji-woo's ambitious period drama "Modern Boy", starring hot actors Park Hae-il and Kim Hye-soo, will open in theaters in October. The press gathered to catch the film's first promotional event held Wednesday in a Seoul theater.

The critically acclaimed director of "Happy End" (starring "Old Boy" hero Choi Min-sik and "Secret Sunshine" heroine Jeon Do-yeon) brings a dramatic love story set in 1930s Gyeongseong or old Seoul, when Korea was under Japanese colonization (1910-45). With years of pre-production for the period detail, the film also utilizes the most blue screen shoots for computer graphics imagery(CGI) used in a Korean movie.

"In trying to recreate the period, I realized how little remains of the past because Korea was so focused on economic development", the director told reporters. The film resurrects via CGI the recently burnt down Sungnyemun and other landmar...| More
