Musical to Show Retro Culture of 70-80s

There was a time when a roller-skating rink was one of the few places to hang around with friends among teenagers in 1980s.

The skaters enjoyed dancing to the strong dance beat song, "Harlem Desire" by London Boys, radiating their youth as they took a break from school routine.

Not only this piece but also other memorable hit songs from the 1970s-80s will resonate on stage to invoke the audience with nostalgia, along with retro dances and fashion in this new musical, "Really Really Like You".

The musical based on a 70's hit film of the same name will go on stage on June 13, starring actress Park Hae-mi, actors Park Sang-myeon, Lee Pil-mo and comedian Choi Byong-seo.

The musical will show love, hope and frustration among high school students and teachers who experience frustration and finally seek hope through a high school baseball team.

Korean films line up for Chuseok holiday

The summer season has been dominated by Hollywood blockbusters, but a wide collection of Korean films are lining up for a release during the Chuseok holiday in September.

The holiday, which will effectively last from September 22 to 26, is traditionally one of the busiest times of the year at the local box office. With many big hits having been launched during Chuseok in past years, attention is focusing on which of this year's films may have the potential to break out.

Local distributors CJ Entertainment, Lotte Entertainment, Showbox, and Cinema Service have each lined up a film for release, while Hollywood branch office Fox will also distribute one Korean title.

CJ's selection is "The Happy Life" by director LEE Joon-ik, who has acquired star status in Korea after box office smash "The King and the Clown" and word-of-mouth hit "Radio Star" in 2006. Style over substance in 'Nowhere to Hide'

In "Kill Bill", Uma Thurman slashes her way through Japan in a yellow "Game of Death" jumpsuit, appending 1970s girl power and Tarantino violence to the director's video-geek worship of the samurai/kung fu genres.

From a stylistic point of view, only "Nowhere to Hide" (1999) gained the same kind of cult status in Korea, seamlessly winding through film genres, non-film media and the web of film history with a stylistic panache that will leave you breathless for at least the flawless first 15 minutes.

Not that this tale of a bunch of hoodlum cops, in particular Detective Woo's (Park Joong-hoon) attempt to bring drug trafficker Chang Sung-min (Ahn Sung-gi) to justice is full of severed limbs or a cliff-hanger ending.

In contrast, the narrative gasps for air beneath a deluge of ultra authorial intrusiveness and a wave of Houdini-like edits that leave you blinking in wonderment.
