Mohamed Abdel Baki sticks to the radio for two hours every evening like glue to listen to a language his family members and friends fail to identify.

When he tells them that the thing that keeps him entranced for hours is the Korean Program, they snigger at the "bizarre" interest he has developed over the last few years.

"Some of these people are narrow-minded", Mohamed, a 44-year-old civil servant from Cairo, the capital of Egypt, said. "They just don't know that in a few years' time, Korean could be one of the leading languages in the world".

Abdel Baki is part of a trend that has started to seep out of intellectual and educational circles in Egypt and into wider society over the last few years. Actor Park Yong-ha was chosen to host the 44th PaekSang Arts Awards. He will host one of Korea's most prestigious arts awards Thursday evening together with SBS announcer Park Eun-kyung at the National Theater of Korea in Seoul.

Having led the Korean Wave in Japan with his role in "Winter Sonata", Park's participation in the award ceremony is expected to draw attention from his Asian fans. He said that it was an honor and pleasure for him to host the PaekSang Arts Award. He added that he is quite nervous to be hosting the show with all the big TV and film stars in the audience, but will do his best to make the ceremony memorable.

Park is currently starring in the hot SBS drama "On Air" playing the romantic, yet charismatic TV producer Lee Kyung-min. Coincidentally, Park has been nominated for the most popular TV star category together with his "On Air" co-stars Song Yoon-ah and Kim Ha-neul. Actor Park Yong-ha of "Winter Sonata" has been voted the most popular Korean actor in Japan. He won 2,383 of 2,637 votes in a poll conducted by M.net Japan's "m-time" to finish in the top spot. Other Korean stars Song Seung-heon and Kwon Sang-woo came in second and third. Song garnered 189 votes and Kwon 65. The hottest Korean star in Japan, Bae Yong-joon, was not on the ballot.

The poll was conducted not online, but offline through postcards. Park thanked his fans for remembering and supporting him even when he's not in Japan. He also promised to do his best in TV drama "On Air" in which he stars with Kim Ha-neul and Song Yoon-ah so as not to disappoint his fans.

Park's future plan in Japan includes an appearance as special guest in the Love Song 2008 Premium Concert scheduled for June 7th in Saitama Super Arena. The concert is to celebrate the release of Park's new compilation album, "Love Song 2008". ...

In the last few years, Korean films, TV dramas and pop music have become immensely popular abroad, a phenomenon known as the Korean Wave. This is the 29th in a series of essays by a select group of scholars and journalists looking at the spread of Korean pop culture in Southeast Asian countries and beyond. - Ed.

It's just another day of filming for Hallyu star Park Yong-ha. On his way to shoot yet another scene for the hit SBS series "On Air", the actor passes by in a burgundy sweatshirt. His face is set and serious, like he is getting into character.

For though he rose to stardom as a singer, Park, 30, is serious about his craft. After five years of running the singing circuit in Japan, he's back in town to show Korea and the rest of the world that he still has the goods.

The actors in the drama "On Air", centered on the story of producing a drama, have commented about it.

The four main actors revealed their feelings about the charm that results when both viewers and actors focus on a drama.
