Yoo Ha's searing crime melodrama deserves kudos

Byung-Doo, lanky and adorable, (played by TV drama star Jo In-Seong from "Something Happened in Bali") is a 29-year-old career criminal working for the middle-rank enforcer Sang-Chul (Yoon Je-Moon, a Molotov-cocktail-loving vagrant in "The Host"). Burdened with a terminally ill mother and taking care of younger siblings, Byung-Doo is feeling financial pressure as a substitute patriarch. When the big boss President Hwang (Cheon Ho-Jin, "The Big Swindle", "Crying Fist") is cornered by a corrupt prosecutor, Byung-Doo volunteers for a whack job and wins the man's trust. However, his real trouble begins when friend Min-Ho (Nam Goong-min), an aspiring movie director, asks him to be a "consultant" for the latter's debut film, a gangster epic not unlike "Dirty Carnival".

"R-point"'s KONG Soo-chang returns with The Guard Post

Writer/director KONG Soo-chang's latest film "The Guard Post" (GP506) opens on April 3. Like his previously directed film R-point, the film is a horror film situated in the military. This time the setting is the Demilitarized Zone between North and South Korea.

JO Hyeon-jae and CHEON Ho-jin star in the horror film about a mysterious slaughtering at guard post 506 and the investigating team who gets trapped at the same guard post due to worsening weather. CHEON Ho-jin played in director YOO Ha's crime film "A Dirty Carnival" (Biyeorhan Geori) and alongside JEON Ji-hyeon in "Daisy". JO Hyeon-jae starred in "Untold Scandal" (Scandal).

KONG initially worked as a scenario writer. He wrote the scenario for the JANG Yoon-hyeon directed thriller "Tell Me Something" starring HAN Seok-kyu. He debuted as a director with "R-point" which unfolds in Cambodia where a Korean military unit is dispatched during the Vietnam War.

Kim Hye-seong—Lee Hyeon-jin, Homosexual Acting in Queer Movie

Kim Hye-seong of "High Kick!" and Lee Hyeon-jin of "Kimchi Cheese Smile" will be portraying homosexuals in a movie. Jo In-seong and Joo Jin-mo have portrayed homosexuals in Director Yoo Ha's movie, but there is great interest in these two, who are starring in an official queer movie.

Kim Hye-seong and Lee Hyeon-jin are the official main characters of the movie "Boy, Meets a Boy", which will start shooting in March. There has been great interest in this movie because Kim Jo Kwang-soo, who gained popularity with his queer movie, "No Regret", wrote the scenario and directed it.

Boy, Meets a Boy is a love story that begins with a boy who meets another boy, who stole his money, on a bus. Kim Hye-seong is Min-soo, who has been robbed, and Lee Hyeon-jin stars as a bad boy.

The producing company plans to donate proceedings to the gay support group, 'Between Friends', which has also planned to participate in the movie production.

"Once upon a Time" shines bright

Director JEONG Yong-ki tried his hand again at comedy and selected a winning leading duo in PARK Yong-woo and LEE Bo-yeong, aptly complemented by a number of supporting roles. The film is situated during the final days of the Japanese colonization of Korea.

"Once upon a Time" is a well balanced heist comedy; including fast and dynamic action and fight scenes, glitter and glamour, and plenty of jokes. The humorous scenario is well handled by the director and the actors' fun during filming is apparent for anybody to see.

PARK transforms from the shy guy who never had a girlfriend in his breakthrough film "My Scary Girl" into a confident player. His eyes are set on the beautiful singer played by LEE, however, she is also pursued by a Korean officer in Japanese service.

Star Power Reigns Big Screen

This year, a long lineup of star-studded movies, both homegrown and Hollywood imports, awaits release with Korea's hottest stars and bona fide actors gracing the silver screen throughout 2008.

While a high profile cast hasn't always guaranteed a sellout, it would be hard to walk past movie posters featuring top stars.

The New Year starts off with a bang. Jeon Ji-hyeon (also known as Gianna Jun) makes her long-awaited comeback after a two-year hiatus opposite Hwang Jeong-min in "A Man Who Was Superman", to open across theaters Jan. 31.

The movie garnered attention by butchering down Jeon's "wholesome" image for the role of a chain-smoking, tomboyish filmmaker. Meanwhile, fans are anxious to see how Hwang will pull off his interesting role as an unconventional Superman.
