 By Han Sang-heeStaff Reporter Actor and singer Park Yong-ha, one of the top Korean wave (hallyu) stars, will hold a concert at the Hawaii Convention Center Oct. 17, his agency, Yona Entertainment said. It will be the first time in three years ― since the 32-year-old appeared at a solo concert in Oct. 14, 2006 ― for him to perform in Hawaii. The state has appointed the day as "Yong-ha Day" ever since. "I am excited to think that I will meet my Hawaiian fans for the first time in three years. I am rehearsing very hard to present a memorable performance", Park said. Yona Entertainment added that they were promoting the concert in Hawaii, Los Angeles and Las Veges through KBFD TV, a Honolulu-based television channel that airs Korean programs including dramas and news. Staff Reporter The Seoul International Drama Awards 2009 wrapped up its 10-day run with a grand award ceremony, the biggest in its four-year history, at Olympic Hall, Olympic Park last week. The annual event started Sept. 4 at various venues around the city with 169 dramas from 37 countries competing. The final ceremony saw numerous stars, producers and writers attending, a big leap from the rather localized ceremonies of previous years. The ceremony was broadcast on KBS, and the event venue was filled with fans that came to see some of their favorite local and foreign stars. The Grand Prize went to "Memoirs in China", a period drama about two families surviving turbulent times during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), Republican China (1911-1949) and finally the People's Republic of China. Staff Reporter The Seoul International Drama Awards 2009 will be held for 10 days starting from Sept. 4 at various venues around the city. A total of 169 dramas from 37 countries will compete at this year's event under the slogan "Enjoy Star & Story". "The purpose of the SDA 2009 is to raise the profile of Korean series in the international drama market and to expand cultural exchanges", an official from the organizing committee said. Some of Korea's favorite programs will compete with some of the best works from around the world, including countries like Japan, Sweden, Italy and even Ecuador. The awards will be divided into two categories: The Best Drama Award and Individual Prizes. The awarding ceremony of the 'Seoul International Drama Awards 2009' is held at Olympic Park on 11th of September. It attracted 169 entries from 37 countries, which is the largest in the history of the event. They came from Asia, America, Europe, and the Middle East.
In its 4th edition this year, the SDA, the world's first international award giving ceremony dedicated to dramas, comprises of events and showcases, contributing to international exchanges as the only international drama festival. The organizing committee of the SDA (Chairman Lee Byung-soon) announced works nominated for the final selection. They include Merlin (UK), which was popular when it was broadcast in Korea, Doctor Who Series 4 on BBC, Memoirs in China (China), "Beethoven Virus" (Korea), "Painter of the Wind" (Korea), and "The Slingshot" (Korea).  The stars of KBS2 drama "The Slingshot" have expressed their determination to put everything they have into the drama until the very last episode.Kim Kang-woo, Park Si-yeon and Park Yong-ha talked to reporters on May 21 at the shooting site of a scene where Chae Do-woo (Kim Kang-woo) and Seo Gyeong-a (Park Si-yeon) get married. Park Yong-ha said that he's having a bit of a hard time maintaining a healthy condition because, with the series nearing the end, shooting often continues into the night. "There are fans who have liked and shown interest in our drama from the beginning. I cherish them most, so I will do my best until the very end not to disappoint them", he added.
