"Crossing" Screens at US Library of Congress

Upcoming South Korean feature "Crossing", a harrowing tale about a North Korean family's desperate struggle to survive, screened at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. last week. Those in attendance included House International Relations Committee specialists Dennis Halpin and Doug Anderson, Peter Beck, executive director of the US Committee for Human Rights in North Korea, KIM Sung-min, a former N.K. refugee and close to 100 foreign journalists.

Halpin, a Republican, called the film a "masterpiece" in its portrayal of human suffering under dictatorship, putting it on par with the "Diary of Anne Frank". Beck called "Crossing" the best film ever made on the subject of North Korean defectors. Several in the audience reportedly broke into tears as they watched the family's sad plight.

RYOO Jang-ha's comeback stars YOO Ji-tae and LEE Yeon-hee

Director/writer RYOO Jang-ha makes his comeback after his 2004 "Springtime" (Kkotbineun Bomi Omyeon) featuring CHOI Min-sik, with the romantic drama Soonjeongmanwha (English translation: "pure comic strip") starring YOO Ji-tae and LEE Yeon-hee.

The film's about a thirty-year-old office employee and a female student who run into each other every morning at an elevator. Both are secretly in love with each other.

Filming commenced on the first day of April. The film is scheduled for a release in the fall. The romantic drama is produced by Let's Film.

YOO Ji-tae played CHOI Min-sik's character's nemesis in PARK Chan-wook's "Old Boy". He also starred in the period piece "Hwangjin-y - Movie - 2007" and HONG Sang-soo's "Woman is the Future of Man" (Yojaneun Namjaui Miraeda). In addition, YOO directs short films.

Hyeon Bin and Lee Bo-yeong will be acting together as a patient and a nurse. In director Yoon Jong-chan's new movie "I Am Happy", the two will meet in a mental hospital and fall in love as a patient and a nurse.

Hyeon Bin plays a young man who suffers from a mental disorder due to a dysfunctional family and lifestyle. Lee Bo-yeong stars as the nurse who takes care of him. This is his comeback to the screen two years after "A Millionaire's First Love" and receiving love as 'Sam-shik' in "My Name is Kim Sam-soon". Lee Bo-yeong, after her first main role in "Once Upon a Time", will show another side of her. It's drawing attention because it's a joyful and painful story, by a director known for his unique movies, as shown in "Sorum" and "Blue Swallow". Filming will start at the end of this month.

Hyeon Bin, Screen Comeback with movie "I Am Happy"

After two years, Hyeon Bin will be coming back to the screen since "A Millionaire's First Love". He wasn't involved in anything after drama "Snow Queen".

On the 20th, he posted a message at his fan café titled, 'You've waited a long time', revealing his comeback. "I'm really busy these days. I've been trying to prepare a good work for our family, but it's taking longer than I thought". He revealed the reason why he hasn't been coming out a lot.

He also said, "I'm going to be filming a movie from next week. It's a movie called "I Am Happy", and many great actors come out. I'm also working with a great director and a good staff".

He said, "I think it's something that I can be born again with, and something I can learn from. I'll try my best to show you a different side of me. I'm thankful to my fans for supporting me, and I hope I can show you great results".

Daring Movie Tells Plight of N.Korean Refugees

Amid growing interest from the global community in the Chosun Ilbo documentary "On the Border", another Korean film about North Korean refugees is set to be released in May.

"Crossing" is the first Korean feature film to deal with the miserable reality faced by North Korean defectors, including laborers in a logging camp and teenagers who survive by begging and stealing. The 2006 movie "South of the Border" dealt with the story of separated North Korean lovers, but "Crossing" focuses on the refugees' struggle to survive.

"Crossing" is a heartbreaking human drama about a man (Cha In-pyo) who escapes from a mining village in North Korea's North Hamgyong Province to find medicine and food for his family. Later the man's 11-year-old son leaves home to find his father.
