Kim Hae-sook, Romance with 23 year junior

Middle-aged actress Kim Hae-sook will be the main character of "Viva! Love". This is her first main role in 33 years.

Her motherly image changed drastically when she came out as a pickpocket in last year's movie "Open City" and now, she will have a romance with a man 23 years younger than her.

This is a comedy telling of the romance between Bong-soon (Kim Hae-sook) and a 21-year-old man. There is interest in Kim Hae-sook's character, who falls in love with her daughter's boyfriend.

She has lived her life as a mother and a wife, but she meets her true love, who will be played by Kim Yeong-min. Kim Yeong-min has been in plays, "Hamlet", "Bad Magnet", "Rising Lovely Girl", and movies "My Right to Ravage Myself", "A Cruel Attendance", and "Ad-Lib Night".

JEON Do-yeon Selects Next Project

Top Korean actress JEON Do-yeon has chosen her next project amidst a flood of offers following her win earlier this year at the Cannes film festival. Acclaimed at home for taking on many diverse and challenging roles, she recently catapulted into the international spotlight with her Cannes Best Actress win for her powerful performance as a traumatized mother in LEE Chang-dong's "Secret Sunshine".

JEON will take the lead role in Meotjin Haroo ("A Fine Day"), the fourth feature from talented director LEE Yoon-ki. LEE made his impressive debut at the Pusan International Film Festival in 2004, winning the New Currents award for "This Charming Girl". HAN Hyo-joo and Like a Virgin Win at Singapore Fest

Upcoming actress HAN Hyo-joo received the Best Actress award at the 20th Singapore International Film Festival (SIFF) for her role in "Ad-Lib Night" (Ajoo Teukbyeolhan Sonnim). "Like a Virgin" (Cheonhajangsa Madonna) shares the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) award with "Crossing the Dust".

"Ad-Lib Night" tells the story of a girl who agrees to pretend to be the daughter of a dying man. The film is directed by the acclaimed LEE Yoon-ki. LEE's two previous films are "This Charming Girl" (Yeoja, Jeonghye) and "Love Talk". "This Charming Girl"'s KIM Ji-soo previously received the Best Actress award at SIFF in 2005.

In "Like a Virgin" a boy joins a wrestling team. His aim is to win a wrestling competition and to use the prize money for a transsexual operation. The film is the directorial debut of LEE Hae-yeong and LEE Hae-joon. Like "Ad-Lib Night" for the promising HAN Hyo-joo, "Like a Virgin" has been a platform for the talented young actor RYOO Deok-hwan.

Actress Han Hyo-joo Honored at Singapore Film Festival

Actress Han Hyo-joo has taken Best Actress honors at the 20th Singapore International Film Festival for her performance in "Ad-Lib Night", a feature film directed by Lee Yoon-ki.

Han's management company Fantom Entertainment was informed of the news in advance by festival organizers.

The festival, which screens annually about 300 films from over 45 countries, ends Monday.

Another Korean actress, Kim Ji-soo, was honored with the same award in 2005 for her work in "This Charming Girl".

Deauville Asian Film Festival 2007

There are a million film festivals through the year, but there are some that sparkle. The Deauville Asian Film Festival on the French Atlantic coast in Normandy is one, and this year it gave in its recent ninth edition some interesting strips of celluloid.

My favourite was a South Korean movie by Lee Yoon-ki, "Ad-Lib Night". Shot in 10 days and in a chronological order to mark a single night, this film conveys the anguish of a young girl (played with remarkable sensitivity by television star Han Hyo-joo) when two men pick her up on a crowded Seoul street and take her to a dying man with a plea that she act his daughter. The girl hesitates in the beginning, but later relents, and the journey helps her in the end to understand who she herself is, and come closer to her mother.
