'The Show Must Go On' a vehicle for Korean star's amazing talent

Kang In-gu (Song Kang-ho, "The Host", "The Secret Sunshine") is a middle-rank boss of a criminal gang. Recently, he is suffering from chronic fatigue, taken to falling asleep while caught in a traffic stop. His business is not exactly booming. His attractive wife Mi-ryung (Park Ji-yeong) has had it with his broken promise to open a fruits and vegetables shop after washing his hands from racketeering and extortion business. His equally attractive teenage daughter Hee-soon (Kim So-eun, "Someone behind Me") wishes he were dead. His supposed colleague Sang-jin (Yoon Je-moon, "The Host", again typecast as a mean thug) is looking for a chance to stick a knife in his gut, both figuratively and literally. The only sympathetic figure around him appears to be his childhood buddy Hyung-jin (Oh Dal-soo, "Old Boy") who now works for a rival gang.

Sin Min-ah Joins "Go go 70" Cast

Sin Min-ah has been cast in CHOI Ho's "Go go 70". The film portrays the 70s nightlife in Korea and the story will focus on a go go band and the club where the band performs. Jo Seung-woo had already been cast as the lead vocalist of the band. SIN's character is a volunteer who helps the band. The guitarist of the band will be a role for CHA Seung-woo, the guitarist of the punk band No Brain.

SIN grabbed attention with her role in the popular martial arts comedy Volcano High and she also starred in KIM Ji-woon's acclaimed "A Bittersweet Life".

SIN is currently filming BOO Ji-yeung's Jigeum Idaeroga Johayo (English translation: "I love the way it is now") about two sisters (SIN and KONG Hyo-jin) with opposing characters who learn to appreciate each other when they need to collaborate in order to find their father who left them. BOO is a recognized short film director and Jigeum Idaeroga Johayo is her feature film directorial debut.

KIM Ah-joong, RYOO Seung-beom and JO Seung-woo in Music Film

Director CHOI Ho assembled an all-star cast consisting of KIM Ah-joong, RYOO Seung-beom and JO Seung-woo for his next film "Gogo 70". The music film will be centered around a band and the first gogo club in Korea in the seventies.

Director CHOI and RYOO join forces again after their collaboration on last year's crime film "Bloody Tie". RYOO also featured in his brother RYOO Seung-wan's acclaimed boxing drama "Crying Fist" and popular martial arts comedy "Arahan".

KIM rose to fame last year through another music film, "200 Pounds Beauty". KIM Yong-hwa's music comedy instantly turned her into a pan-Asian star. She portrayed an overweight singer who chooses drastic cosmetic surgery.

JO starred in the blockbusters "Tazza: The High Rollers" ("The War of Flower") and "MARATHON". He also played in IM Kwon-taek's "Chunhyang" and "Low Life".

"The Cut" Combines Talent and Promising Actors

Egg Films and Chungeorahm Films released their horror summer title "The Cut" (Haeboohakgyosil). The film is directed by SON Tae-woong and the cast features the young actors HAN Ji-min and ON Joo-wan.

The film depicts medical students who one by one start to meet their death when they start dissecting a corps of a mysterious beautiful woman. The film tackles the horror genre from a visual imaginative angle rather than relying on gore.

SON is both a director and writer and he penned BONG Joon-ho's international breakthrough "Barking Dogs Never Bite" (2000). HAN has already a long career in television dramas. ON was recognized for his leading role in JO Chang-ho's 2006 international film festival favorite "The Peter Pan Formula". He also played supporting roles in the gangster film "Bloody Tie" and the martial arts film "The City of Violence".

Takeover of Korea's MK Pictures

The founders of major Korean film industry player MK Pictures, director KANG Je-gyu, CEO LEE Eun and president SHIM Jae-myeong, announced that they have sold their shares, worth 29% of the company, to a group of five investors. The group, headed by KIM Young-kun, paid US$16.3 billion for a controlling stake in the company.

MK Pictures, which put its shares on the stock market only 3 years ago, has in its catalogue some of the defining films in the rise of New Korean Cinema. Included are KANG Je-gyu's landmark local blockbuster "Shiri" and his follow-up "Taegukgi", as well as PARK Chan-wook's "JSA - Joint Security Area". Recent titles by MK include "A Good Lawyer's Wife", "Bloody Tie", and "The President's Last Bang" and "The Fox Family".
