The Korean Film Council (KOFIC) has announced successful results from the 24th Tokyo International Film Festival and 8th TIFFCOM market after a presentation on co-productions and locations incentives, the Ko-production in Tokyo project meetings, and film sales at the KOFIC umbrella stand.
On Oct. 26 at TIFFCOM, KOFIC held a presentation on Korea's Global Contents Fund and its Location Incentive Systems. More than 120 film industry professionals attended the event at Roppongi Hills. The Korean film industry is strongly represented at the Tokyo International Film Festival's content market TIFFCOM, which opened yesterday to run until Oct 26 in the Roppongi Hills complex. The Korean Film Council (KOFIC) has opened an umbrella stand with seven sales companies - CJ Entertainment, Showbox / Mediaplex, Finecut,M-Line Distribution, 9ers Entertainment, Lotte Entertainment, and Mirovision.
"Last year, the KOFIC umbrella stand only had four companies, but this year we have a large-scale stand with seven companies. They are doing well with meetings results already on the first day. Aiming to promote and develop international co-productions, the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) is planning two upcoming KO-Production events in Tokyo and in Paris.
Ko-Production in Tokyo will be held in conjunction with TIFFCOM, the market that runs parallel to the Tokyo International Film Festival. As part of TIFFCOM's revamped Tokyo Project Gathering, which has a new focus on co-productions, KOFIC will be sending five Korea-Japan co-production projects to participate. Synopsis
Hyung-gu, a young Korean, visits Japan by boat three or four times a month to help with middle-aged Bo-gyung’s smuggling business. It is always touru, a young Japanese man, who welcomes him there. Hyung-gu and touru sacrifice themselves for the sake of their families, money, and friendship. One day, Bo-gyung ordered them to kidnap a woman named Jisu and take her to Japan, and this changes their future in an unexpected way. Hyung-gu, having met touru, suddenly feels responsible for his family. Meanwhile, touru, who used to take care of everything, feels liberated after meeting Hyung-gu. In spite of the language border and the difference of surroundings, the two young men from Korea and Japan go through a piece of a blossom of youth together. through the use of a boat as a visual metaphor, this film raises the question of solitude of a man and communication among people.
