Powerful rock singer "Maya" is returning to the small screen three years after her last appearance on TV. She has been cast in an unnamed weekend series scheduled to air in July.

The new drama will be directed by Hong Chang-wook, who had worked with her previously in "Magic". "Maya" is said to be playing a character, who is very outgoing and generous, but has a pathological dislike for men. She hasn't received the detailed synopsis yet, but is determined to do her best and looking forward to joining other cast members soon.

Sequel to "200 Pounds Beauty" planned

Korean production company KM Culture has announced plans to make a sequel to the popular romantic comedy "200 Pounds Beauty".

A script is currently being written by LEE Han I, the screenwriter responsible for the TV drama "Bodyguard". In the sequel, the main character Hanna once again gains weight and struggles to establish herself as a real singer.

The director and main cast for the film have yet to be determined, although actress KIM Ah-joong has expressed an interest in seeing the completed script.

The announcement is one in a long list of popular Korean films for which sequels are being planned. Production house Chungeorahm is readying a follow-up to Korea's box office record holder "The Host", with a script written by well-known comic writer Kang Pool and a planned budget exceeding $11 million. Other films with sequels in the works include "Tazza: The High Rollers" ("The War of Flower")and "Le Grand Chef".

'200 Pounds Beauty' Planning Sequel

In the midst of sequels being planned for The War of Flower and Le Grand Chef, there is also a sequel being planned for '200 Pounds Beauty', which reached 6.62 million viewers last year.

The producing group of the movie, KM Culture, has revealed that they are currently making a scenario due to overflowing requests from fans.

Writer Lee Han I, who also wrote the drama "Bodyguard", starring Cha Seung-won, is writing the scenario. The main plot is that Hanna has "yo-yo syndrome". It is expected to contain events that happen to Hanna, who is gaining weight again after turning from a fat woman to a beauty with plastic surgery and dieting.

Writer Lee has added, "The plan is that Hanna will gain weight again but will be recognized as a true singer. But we will add the element of comedy and will highlight the first movie, which was a comedy but had a message to society".

Honey Lee Likely to Become 1st Hallyu Miss Korea

Honey Lee, who finished fourth at the 2007 Miss Universe beauty pageant, has recently drawn attention from Singapore's The Electric New Paper.

It was the first time the daily introduced a beauty contestant, not a celebrity. It wrote that Lee, who holds a third degree black belt in taekwondo, "once played 'bodyguard' to actress Kim Tae-hee" when she was in college, because she is 10 centimeters taller than Kim and has excellent taekwondo skills. The daily wrote, "The two beauties have been good friends since joining the same ski club while studying at Korea's prestigious Seoul National University in 2004".

Lee currently hosts a weekly entertainment show along with emcee Seo Kyung-seok, but she denies that she has made an official debut in showbiz. The Singaporean daily quoted Lee's agency as saying that Lee "wants to represent traditional Korean beauty and culture to the world. And this is the first step toward fulfilling her goal".

Lim Eun-kyeong Cast as Lead Actress for Chinese TV Drama

TV actress Lim Eun-kyeong will debut in a Chinese TV drama. Elite Planning, Lim's entertainment agency, disclosed on Dec. 14 that "Lim Eun-kyeong has been cast as the lead actress for a new romantic drama involving insurance fraud produced by 'Huaxin Yingshi' (華新影視), a Chinese TV drama production agency".

This drama features a story about the romance between a man and a woman who are working for an insurance company. In the drama, they are embroiled in an insurance fraud case together and argue with each other at every opportunity. It will be aired throughout China early next year.

Lim will leave for China on Dec. 23 to film the drama. She will stay in Hangzhou, China for three months starting from late December.

A Korean drama entitled "Bodyguard" and a Korean movie entitled "Doll Master", both starring Lim, have hit Chinese-speaking markets such as Taiwan before. But this is the first time Lim is making a full-fledged debut in China.
