Dramas Adopt New Way of Production

Most Korean dramas start airing after the shooting of first a few episodes. Thus the general practice has been that production gets busier and busier, with the dramas eventually rushing to the end with obviously lower quality than before.

A blockbuster hit from last year, "Taewangsasingi" ("The Legend", The Four Guardian Gods of the King) was not an exception. Despite 43 billion won ($46 million) budget and three years of preparation, the drama did not have enough time to shoot and edit 24 episodes. One time, an episode had been edited just after the designated airing time, and MBC, the broadcasting station, had to extend their live news to fill up time cut from the production.

Korean Actor Ahn to Appear as Model for Ford Motor Company

Korean actor Ahn Jae-wook will appear in a magazine ad for U.S.-based Ford Motor Company.

Ahn's representatives at Motis (Ahn's management company) said that he will appear in ads for Ford's new "Edge" automobile. Through the online, printed, and television media, the advertisements will appear in targeted markets throughout the United States.

According to Motis, the ad, featuring Ahn, will appear on three magazines. He will also appear on a number of online and TV advertisements.

The Motis representative said, "Ahn's right of publicity on his images published on magazines and on online ad will be valid for six months; and, twelve months for his voice used in online and TV ads".

The official added, "Ford's selection of Ahn as its advertising spokesperson is a result of the car company's recognition of the 'Hallyu' actor's high marketability".

For fan clubs, influence is a growing trend

March 19, 2005 ㅡ Fans of actress Lee Eun-joo, who recently committed suicide, are even busier now than when the actress was alive, because they do not want her name to be forgotten.
Yeom Je-in, 37, opened an online cafe called "A gathering of people who remember Lee Eun-joo " early this month, and within a week more than 150 people joined the club. Now, the members are volunteering at hospices, since the actress promoted hospice activities when she was shooting a film, "Haneul Jeongwon" (The Garden of Heaven), in 2003.
Last weekend, Mr. Yeom went to visit Ms. Lee's grave in Cheonga Park in Goyang, Gyeonggi province. "Before Ms. Lee died, I was just a passive fan, but now I've become a more active one", he said.
Mr. Yeom is not the only one, as fan clubs have become more prominent than ever.

Friends, Colleagues Come to Cherish Memory of Lee Eun-joo

When Lee Eun-joo, who committed suicide on Feb. 22, was found dead in her apartment, she was wearing sweatpants and a short-sleeved T-shirt. A pencil sharpener and blood stains were found on her bed, and there were traces of attempts to slit her wrists on Lee's arms.

Police also found notes that were apparently written by Lee, one saying, "Mom, I am sorry, and I love you". Another note read, "I wanted to work very much. Living does not seem to make sense anymore. I don't want to blame anyone. I wish I had more money... I wanted to earn money". Lee also wrote that she was tired of living, because her dignity had been ruined and she did not want to go through that experience. "I feel like I am trapped, and I don't want others to see me like this. It's the middle of February already. I am being chased by time", wrote Lee in a final note.
