HAN Seok-kyu and CHA Seung-won will play the leading roles in a crime film with the Korean title Nooneneun Noon, i-eneun i, which means "Eye for an Eye, Tooth for a Tooth". HAN's character is a top detective and CHA will play a bold criminal who doesn't hesitate to commit a crime even with the police present.

AHN Kwon-tae is directing and the film is a production of Taewon Entertainment en Yoobiyoo Film. AHN is the writer/director of the 2004 film "My Brother" ("Hello Brother"). Filming started in June and the film will be released next year.

HAN and CHA are both major actors in Korea. HAN's accolades include "Shiri" and "Christmas in August". CHA started out in comedies like My Teacher, Mr.Kim, but now also takes on dramatic roles like in "Blood Rain".

Actress KIM Ah-joong and director PARK Chan-wook will be present at the 2007 Korean Film Festival in Hanoi. The festival opens May 31st at the National Convention Hall and will mark the 15th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and South Korea.

The festival will run for four days and feature six Korean films acclaimed at home and abroad. Opening the fest will be "200 Pounds Beauty", which has brought actress KIM stardom across Asia after successful releases in Singapore and Hong Kong.

Other films on the program are last years box office record breakers The Host and King and the Clown, along with rock-nostalgia film "Radio Star", director PARK's Berlin winner "I'm a Cyborg but that's OK", and family film "Little Brother" ("Hello Brother"). Of the latter film, 500 free tickets will be provided to children at Vietnamese orphanages.

Since Kang Soo-yeon became the first Korean actress to win a major international award in 1987 with "The Surrogate Mother", the local movie industry has gone through dramatic improvement over the past 20 years.

Kang, then 21, was chosen best actress at the Venice Film Festival for her role as "Sibaji", a Korean word for surrogate mother, in the movie produced by Korea's master film director Im Kwon-Taek.

In 1989, Kang reaffirmed her global fame as she won best actress at the Moscow Film Festival for her role in Im's Buddhist movie, "Aje Aje Bara Aje", which translates into "Come, come, come upward".

At the heart of the global acclaim poured on Korean movies for the past two decades were a dozen of other actresses, armed with passion for acting and superb performance.

The Korean film "Little Brother" ("Hello Brother") directed by Lim Tae-hyeong has won the top prize at an international children's film festival held in Germany. The film's producer, MK Pictures, said Monday that "Little Brother" shared the Lucas Award with the German film "Paula's Secret" at the Lucas International Children's Film Festival which ran from Sept. 24 until Oct. 1.

Among 13 feature and eight short films in the competition category, Lim's work was recognized for maintaining its humor and not becoming sentimental despite its serious topic. A total of 123 films were submitted to the festival.

Based on a true story, "Little Brother" ("Hello Brother") deals with the life of a boy diagnosed with cancer and the boy's little brother. Park Ji-bin, who played the little brother, won the Silver Iris Award for Best Actor at the New Montreal Filmfest in Canada in September.

Actress SIN Ae-ra debuts on the big-screen with the film "Ice Bar". SHIN plays a single mother whose son, still a young boy, sells ice cream using an improvised ice cream parlor. The boy wishes to look for his father in Seoul and therefore tries to earn money for the trip. The boy is played by PARK Ji-bin.

In "Ice Bar" SIN is a caring mother who raises her child as well as she can and tries to protect him from a society which discriminates single mothers and their children. SHIN Ae-ra is often in the headlines for other reasons than acting. She and her celebrity actor husband CHA In-pyo ("Hanbando") are known for their philanthropy, usually for the well-being of children. In real life they tackled another social issue when the couple adopted a child. Korean babies are usually adopted abroad, also because of the prominence of bloodlines in Korean society. The media saw the couple's decision as a positive influence in favor of domestic adoption.
