Youthful drama targets weekend audience

Rarely does a weekend family drama make the splash that KBS' "Mom's Dead Upset" did. The hit series ended with a bang last Sunday, garnering viewer ratings of 39.7 percent nationwide, according to AGB Nielsen Media research.

Hoping to continue their winning streak, KBS is following it up with a light and comic romance about a radio producer and a disc jockey.

Celebrities Kim Sung-soo and Lee Tae-ran will be playing the title roles. Actor Kim, 35, stars as a has-been pop singer who takes a job as a radio disc jockey. Actress Lee Tae-ran, 33, plays the domineering co-worker who bickers her way into his heart.

Co-star Park Hae-mi, however, expressed reservations about the decidedly more youthful bent of the upcoming family drama -- titled "My Precious You" -- at the press conference on Tuesday. Three famous producers who gave birth to the most popular Korean sitcoms are set to speak at the Cultural Content Academy.

The Cyber Cultural Content Academy (http://contents.connect.or.kr), operated by the Korea Culture and Content Agency, has invited three well-known producers of Korean sitcoms to give an open lecture on, June 30, 2007, at 2 PM at the KOCCA building in Yeoksam-dong.

The speakers who will be expounding on the theme of the Korean sitcom's "Present and Future" are Noh Do-Cheol, producer of "Soul Mate" and "Hello, Francesca", Kim Min-Sik of "Rainbow Romance", and Kim Seok-Yoon of "Old Miss Diary - Drama".

Kim Min-Sik will start off on the theme of "Youth Sitco: Its Past, Present, and Future" and examine the success factors of "Three Men, Three Women", and "Non-Stop". The talk hopes to chart a direction for the advancement of youth sitcoms, according to the desires of viewers, which have become more diverse.

Women are enjoying remarkable success on the silver screen thanks to comedy. The movie "200 Pounds Beauty", which stars the actress Kim Ah-joong as an obese pop singer, has drawn more than 2.5 million people since its release on Dec. 14. Film Adaptations Winter Sonata and Autumn in My Heart

The rights for a film adaptation of the popular Korean television dramas Autumn in My Heart and Winter Sonata are obtained by Poibos from KBS Media. Poibos announced that nothing has been decided yet about the cast and the story.

Autumn in My Heart and Winter Sonata enjoyed great popularity across Asia and turned the leading actors into pan-Asian stars. Song Seung-heon and Song Hye-kyo played the main characters in Autumn in My Heart, and Winter Sonata starred Bae Yong-joon and Choi Ji-woo.

The Poibos associated production company Culture Cap Media is attached to the project as producers of the films. Culture Cap Media films include the 2004 box office hit My Little Bride.

Other Korean television serials in development for film adaptation include "Old Miss Diary - Drama" (KBS sitcom), "Hello, Francesca" (MBC sitcom) and Taereung Training Center (MBC short drama).
