Major Hollywood star Charlize Theron said that her project to remake PARK Chan-wook's "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" (Chinjeorhan Geumjassi) has sparked a great interest in Korea and Korean culture.

She is discussing the possibility to visit Korea during her promotion tour for her upcoming film Hancock, an action comedy with Will Smith as a fallen action hero who receives counselling to win the public's affection back. If possible, her first visit to Korea would take place in June prior to a July 2 release of Hancock.

PARK's original "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" stars LEE Young-ae. Her character has been framed. After her release from prison, she is out to take revenge. The film is the final instalment of PARK's renowned 'revenge trilogy' which also includes Sympathy for Mr. vengeance and Cannes' Grand Prix winner Old Boy. Theron will produce and take the lead role in the Hollywood remake. Theron won an Academy Award for her role in Monster.

The Korean Wave has been spreading Korean pop culture across Asia and beyond for more than a decade, although it has barely reached Poland, in the centre of Europe. It is sad to admit, but Korean culture (traditional as well as the "new wave") does not exist in Polish minds as a distinctive identity. It is often mixed in with Chinese and Japanese cultures, which are more defined in Poland yet still often confused with each other.

Still, it is trendy nowadays in Poland to go to an East Asian restaurant, buy Chinese souvenirs, own Japanese-style furniture, follow feng-shui rules, watch an Asian movie or send kids to taekwondo or karate classes.

Although Polish knowledge of Korean culture is minimal, the present article aims to show that there is a gentle Korean wind that is blowing into Poland faster than the mainstream Wave.

The British press is focusing on Director Park Chan-wook, who is awaiting the British premiere of "I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK" on the 4th.

Britain's daily magazine The Times stated through an interview with Director Park that the "poet of blood has changed his productions to love stories".

"I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK" is about two mental hospital patients, played by "Rain" and Im Soo-jeong. It seems The Times has called Director Park the 'poet of blood' because of his bloody revenge stories, "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance", "Old Boy", and "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance".

In the article, The Times stated, "Director Park's "Old Boy" was at the center of attention after Cho Seung-hui, who committed the Virginia Tech killings, sent a picture of him holding a hammer to a television station".

PARK Chan-wook keeps demanding international attention. After the recent disclosure of Charlize Theron's plan to produce and star in a remake of PARK's "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" (Chinjeorhan Geumjassi)",I'm a Cyborg, but that's Ok" (Ssaibogeujiman Gwaenjanha) is scheduled for a release in UK cinemas on April 4.

One of the leading progressive newspapers The Guardian interviewed PARK for the occasion. I'm a Cyborg, but that's Ok is praised for its beautiful visuals and its 'offbeat charms'. PARK intended to make a film which his 12-year-old daughter is also able to watch with her friends. The interview – inevitably – also deals with his famed vengeance trilogy and violence in film and society.

A much-lauded Korean movie is to be remade in the U.S. with a big star headlining in it.

According to the Boston Globe, Park Chan-Wook's "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" (sometimes called "Lady Vengeance) is to be remade and Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron will star as the leading role, originally played by Lee Young-ae.

Theron will also produce the movie, which is the third and final installment in Park Chan-Wook's vengeance series after Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" (2002) and "Old Boy" (2003).

"Sympathy for Lady Vengeance", won the Young Lion and Best Innovation awards at the 62nd Venice Film Festival.

CJ Entertainment, the distributor of the film, says discussion is underway for production but there is no word yet on when production is set to begin.
