Synopsis
In Seoul, there are 70 thousand taxies including 20 thousand corporate taxies and 40 thousand private taxies threading across the city. In most cases, a taxi driver works 12 hour shifts and must complete 20 to 30 trips a day in order to take home the smallest of earnings after paying 80 to 100 dollars to the taxi company. The taxi drivers go to every nook and cranny of the city with a variety of passengers at their side or in the back seat. One summer I became a taxi driver, driving one of Seoul’s 70 thousand taxies …

The 2nd annual France Korean Film Festival (Festival Franco-Coréen du Film) will take place Dec 12 -18 in Paris. Presented in partnership with Association 1886, an organization of young students and filmmakers from France and Korea, the goal of the festival is to promote fresh and promising creative talent in Korea.
The event will screen ten features (five documentaries and five fiction works) from young directors along with ten short films. Included in this year's program are the award-winning festival favorite "Family Ties" ("The Birth of a Family") by KIM Tae-yong, Pusan premiere "Before The Summer Passes Away" by SEONG Ji-hye in her feature debut, YOON Jong-bin's "The Unforgiven" which screened in Cannes Un Certain Regard, NOH Dong-seok's Boys of Tomorrow.

"Is Everyone Alright" is a free screening of Korean documentaries made by independent filmmakers. The documentaries cover a wide range of social issues in Korea. They show at various times at the Ilmin Museum.
"Camellia Lady", by Park Jeong-seok, delves into the lives of patients suffering from Hansen's disease who were sent to Sorok Island during the Japanese occupation. They were separated from their families for decades. A profile of Lee Haeng-sim, a victim who has been living on the island for 74 years, is included.
Through the eyes of three activists, Hwang Yoon looks at animals killed by vehicles on Korean highways in his "One Day on the Road".
Kyung-soon's "Shocking Family", which won the Okrang's Award during the Women's Film Festival in Seoul, zooms into the lives of three women in their 20s, 30s and 40s who talk about the meaning of their existence within a family system.

Director Kim Myeong-joon's film "Our School" is a documentary about a school in Japan run by the pro-North Korea General Association of Korean Residents. It produces both laughter and tears. Unlike most documentaries, the film is a first-person narrative.
It is unusual for this kind of documentary to be shown in movie theaters, but this and a similar documentary, director Choi-ha Dong-ha's "Taxi Blues", are being shown during the sixth Seoul Independent Documentary Festival at the Seoul Art Cinema in Jongno, Seoul.
"Our School" is scheduled to be screened today. The documentary chronicles a year in the life of senior students at a high school on Hokkaido island, in Japan. The film won the Unpa Award for best documentary at the Pusan International Film Festival recently.
