"Going by the Book" (Bareuge Salja) is the feature film directorial debut of RA Hee-chan. The comedy's protagonist – a righteous and punctual policeman – is played by Jeong Jae-yeong. JANG Jin is responsible for the scenario.

Jeong's character follows rules to the extremes and it causes his downfall from detective to traffic agent. When he is given the role of a bank robber in a bank robbery simulation, he again fails to grasp the situation and goes too far, causing such mayhem that the media rush to the scene to cover the 'bank robbery'.

Ra was the assistant director of JANG Jin during the film "Murder, Take One" ("The Big Scene"). JANG Jin is known for his particular style for adding comedy elements. JANG wrote and directed films like "Someone Special" and this year's "A Day with My Son". He also wrote the script for "Welcome to Dongmakgol".

'Day' Is Director's Failed Experiment

Director Jang Jin is famous for his twisty and unconventional storylines and creation of peculiar characters in such works as "Guns and Talks" (2001), "Someone Special" (2004) and "Murder, Take One" ("The Big Scene", 2005).

Having successfully won over a lot of fans with his particular style, it is no doubt that the audience has high expectations for his new film, "A Day With My Son", even if it seems to have many elements typical of a melodramatic tearjerker _ it is a story about a man serving a life sentence who gets one day out of jail for the first time in 15 years to meet his son.

But the new film is a total disaster as it is too Jang Jin-esque.

In the film, Lee Gang-sik (played by Cha Seung-won) is a criminal, who serves a life sentence in prison after being convicted of murder and robbery. For the first time in 15 years, the well-behaved prisoner is granted a one-day prison leave.

With due respect to the reporter above, I do not agree with his comments on the films. I believe the director was able to create a powerful film and I enjoyed it as much as Guns & Talks and The Big Scene. The ending was touching. I love it. athos8888 2007-07-25 21:17:42

JANG Jin explores Father and Son relations

Inventive director JANG Jin portrays this time the relationship between an estranged father and son in his new film "A Day with My Son" (Adeul). The father is played by CHA Seung-won and the son is a role for RYOO Deok-hwan.

The drama will open May 3rd. A Day with My Son is a project by production company KnJ Entertainment and is distributed by Cinema Service.

JANG Jin has been influential as a scenario writer and director, and among his films are "Guns and Talks" (Killeodeului Sooda, 2001), "Someone Special" (Aneun Yeoja, 2004), "Righteous Ties" (Georookhan Gyebo, 2006) and he wrote the screenplay for "Welcome to Dongmakgol" (2005).

CHA has been successful as a comedy actor, but in recent years he has also built a reputation for dramatic roles, most notably with his performances in "Blood Rain" (Hyeorui Noo, 2005) and "Murder, Take One" ("The Big Scene" - Baksoochil Ttae Tteonara, 2005) another collaboration with JANG Jin.

Jeong Jae-yeong Finished Filming

Actor Jeong Jae-yeong's next film finished shooting on the last day of January. The comedy bears the Korean title Bareuge Salja, which translates in English as: "let's live righteous". The film ("Going by the Book") is scheduled for release in the first part of the year. First time director RA Hee-chan was in charge of the filming.

It's reported that the last filmed scene of the comedy was a bank robbery simulation with JUNG's character firing dummy bullets to guard the bank. Filming took place in the province Kangwon-do.

JEONG and RA both have a history with influential director JANG Jin. They worked together on director JANG Jin's 2005 film "Murder, Take One" ("The Big Scene") RA as an assistant director. In 2005, JEONG also played in the popular comedy "Welcome to Dongmakgol", scripted by JANG Jin. Last year he was part of SONG Chang-soo's comedy "My Captain Mr. Underground" and collaborated with JANG Jin again on the gangster drama "Righteous Ties".

Korea Film Festival to Be Held in China

The Korean Film Festival will be held in Beijing and Shanghai from Friday through Sunday, after the CJ China Film Festival was held in the two biggest Korean cities of Seoul and Busan last month. The festivals are expected to facilitate exchange between the Korean and Chinese film industries.

The Korean Film Festival will focus on highlighting diversity in Korean movies, while the Chinese Film Festival put an emphasis on introducing works by new-generation Chinese directors.

Ten movies to be shown at the festival are: "My Boss, My Teacher", "The Big Scene", "You Are My Sunshine", "All for Love" ("My Lovely Week"), "A Moment to Remember", "My Brother", "Arahan", " The Memories of Murder", "The Classic", and "Musa - The Warrior".
