The nation will begin searching for the remains of Korean independence activist An Jung-geun this month.

After assassinating Japan's Prime Minister Hirobumi Ito in 1909, An was sentenced to death by Japanese authorities. He was executed on March 26th, 1910 in the Chinese city of Lushunkou, which was then known as Ryojun.

An official at the South Korean Embassy in Beijing said excavation work will begin near the Ryojun prison.

He added that apartment construction has been halted near the site and that excavation will take two to three months.

As China has expressed willingness to cooperate, the two Koreas are likely to discuss a joint excavation of the Korean freedom fighter's remains.

A movie that takes a comic look at the two Koreas will become the first South Korean film to be partially shot in the North.

"Brave Family (Kankun Kajok)", a comedy about a family pretending that the Koreas have been reunified to please their dying father, is set to shoot part of its story in the North, according to Doosaboo Film, the production company behind the movie.

"We will film parts of the movie at tourist areas near North Korea's Mt. Kumgang for three days from Feb. 21", company official said. "The film crew and 50 others will visit North Korea and film the sequence, which is near the end of the movie, showing the family taking a trip to the communist state".

The company has already spoken to the authorities in North Korea and Hyundai Asan, which operates an inter-Korean tourism project on the scenic mountain near the eastern coast of the Korean peninsula.

BoA's promotion of the film "Thomas Ahn Jung-geun" has brought about a sensitive reaction in Japan.
Nikkan Sports, a major Japanese sports paper, in a Friday article entitled, "BoA Does PR in Korea for Movie on Ito Hirobumi's Assassin", said the 17-year-old BoA was doing promotion work for the film "Thomas Ahn Jung-geun", which tells the story of Ahn's assassination of former Japanese statesman Ito Hirobumi in Harbin, China, quoting a Wednesday piece ran on Chosun.com. The film debuts Friday.

The Nikkan said BoA, along with the group Dongbang-shingi held a special preview of the film at Seoul Theater and planned to contribute W50 million (Y5 million) to an association commemorating Ahn.
