Volcano High School is marking its 108th. Every student is a martial arts expert, so it is not surprising to see tea leaves moving in the shape of dragons or hallway windows shattering into bits with no one touching them. At Volcano High, the legend of the Secret Manuscript - the one who inherits these writings will rule the world - has been continuously passed down. From the outside, Volcano High School seems peaceful. But a bitter showdown for the Secret Manuscript is at hand. Among the challengers are the assistant principal who thirsts for the principal's position; SONG HakRim(KWON SangWoo) becames the best student in the shortest time in the history of Volcano High, while JANG Ryang(KIM SooRoh), captain of the weight lifting team, dreams of being the best at Volcano High. One day, KIM KyungSoo(JANG Hyuk) transfers to Volcano High, after being expelled xpelled from eight other schools because he couldn't manage the gift of his power. KyungSoo is determined to graduate from Volcano High no matter what happens. At a school where all the students are martial arts experts, inevitably they grasp the potential talent of the new kid. Will KyungSoo manage to graduate in the middle of the violent storm caused by the battle for the Secret Manuscript?

Celebrated director PARK Chan-wook's first effort as a producer is the comedy-drama "Crush and Blush". KONG Hyo-jin plays the titular character, a marginalised woman whose head easily turns red. Her love for a man played by LEE Jong-hyuk is unrequited. But the teacher doesn't give up that easily.

First time feature film director LEE Kyeong-mi is at the helm of the project. She has experience directing short films. "Crush and Blush" is scheduled for a October 16 release.

The film gained more publicity when a cameo of director BONG Joon-ho ("The Host)" became known. BONG appears as an office worker who takes English classes at a language institute together with KONG's character.

KONG Hyo-jin is currently in cinemas with RYOO Seung-wan's parody "Dachiwama Lee". She broke through with supporting roles in the youngster films "Volcano High" and "No Manners". She also starred in LEE Myeong-se's "M".

The Korean Film Council (KOFIC) announced the selection of KIM Tae-gyoon's "Crossing" as the Korean submission to the 81st Academy Awards (Oscars) for the Best Foreign Film section.

The KOFIC committee in charge of the selection motivated their decision by saying that they believe that the human drama "Crossing" is the best contender in the light of the academy's preferences based on previous Best Foreign Film winners.

The committee members came to their decision after considering both the content in line with expected Academy tastes and the potential for a successful commercial U.S. release of the shortlisted films.

"Crossing" was shortlisted along with KIM Jee-woon's Korean style western The Good, the Bad, the Weird, the sports drama Forever the Moment by LIM Soon-rye, the Vietnam drama Sunny by the hands of LEE Joon-ik, and NA Hong-jin's social thriller The Chaser.

"Crossing" tells the story of a North Korean father and son who individually cross over into China. CHA In...| More

"My Mighty Princess", a new romantic comedy directed by Kwak Jae-yong, is finally hitting theaters this month after a delay of more than two years, raising hopes among fans who still remember the filmmaker's hit, "My Sassy Girl".

The delay illustrates the deepening problems plaguing Korean cinema, when even work by a widely recognized filmmaker such as Kwak has to overcome a slew of hurdles.

Director Kwak, however, seemed relieved about the prospect at a press conference held in Apgujeong-dong on Tuesday.

"All the cast members signed on to the project because they counted on me, but they have been deceived. When I showed my screenplay to them, I told them all the wire action scenes would be done by doubles or stunts, but in fact the actors had to do all the wire actions themselves", Kwak joked.

The new movie follows Kwak's trademark format: a romantic comedy where a powerful female character gets involved with a weaker male. In "My Sassy Girl", Jeon Ji-hyeon played the quir...| More

Upcoming South Korean feature "Crossing", a harrowing tale about a North Korean family's desperate struggle to survive, screened at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. last week. Those in attendance included House International Relations Committee specialists Dennis Halpin and Doug Anderson, Peter Beck, executive director of the US Committee for Human Rights in North Korea, KIM Sung-min, a former N.K. refugee and close to 100 foreign journalists.

Halpin, a Republican, called the film a "masterpiece" in its portrayal of human suffering under dictatorship, putting it on par with the "Diary of Anne Frank". Beck called "Crossing" the best film ever made on the subject of North Korean defectors. Several in the audience reportedly broke into tears as they watched the family's sad plight.

Based on the real-life accounts of numerous North Korean refugees, the film centers on a family of three, the husband, Yong-soo, his wife, and their 11-year-old son. When Yong-soo's wife...| More
