| Yoo Jin Finds Life Abroad Reflected in New Drama (Source) |

Yoo Jin, formerly of K-pop girl group SES, says her starring role in new MBC TV weekend drama "Creating Destiny" is her comeback on TV after a year's absence. In a recent interview during the photo shoot for the poster, Yoo Jin said the new drama is "novel and fun and can be enjoyed by people of all ages".
Yoo Jin plays a soon-to-be lawyer who moved to Australia when young. "She and I are similar in that we both left Korea at an early age", she said. "Her situation, background and personality are all similar to mine. That's probably why I didn't think it was too difficult when I read the script. I think my experience of spending my teen years in Guam will help me immensely with the role".
She has many lines in English. "Even though I spent my youth abroad, English is still difficult. I think I need to practice a lot. I felt as if I was reading off a book, not acting, when I was practicing the lines. I'm going to have to read the script over and over and practice it a lot. I try t... |More

The South Korean box office saw an all-time high in August, drawing over 20 million moviegoers for the first time in two years, the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) announced Monday.
Some 21.4 million tickets were sold, which purely in terms of numbers would account for about 43.2 percent of South Korea's 49.5-million population.
This is the third time that over 20 million tickets were sold in a single month. In January 2006 "My Boss, My Teacher" among others attracted 20.39 million audience members and, in August 2007, "D-War" and "May 18" were the main catalysts in bringing in 21.56 million moviegoers. Despite ranking second two years ago in terms of number of viewers, August pulled in the highest gross profit ― 153.9 billion won compared to 136.7 billion won in 2007.
Korean summer blockbusters "Haeundae" and "Take Off" attracted a total of 12.93 million moviegoers (60.4 percent of the box office sales). The two alternated between first an... |More

| New Movies: Yoga, Sophie's Revenge, A Perfect Getaway (Source) |
2009/08/20 |
Korean blockbusters have been doing well in theaters this summer.
Adding to the competition is "Yoga", a new horror film from director Yoon Jae-yeon.
Also opening this week is "Sophie's Revenge", Korean wave actor So Ji-sub's first international film, and an action packed film set in Hawaii called "A Perfect Getaway".
"Yoga"
Hyo-jeong was a top home shopping show host, but she has been losing ground to young and charming competitors.
And then there's In-sun, an obsessive dieter, and Yeon-ji, a forgotten idol star who loves looking at her reflection in the mirror.
A total of five women sign up for a special yoga class that promises eternal beauty.
Standards of beauty are becoming indistinguishable in modern society, which in itself is a chilling notion.
Tragedy arises when the ambition to become more desirable, gets out of hand.
"Sophie's Revenge"
Sophie, an aspiring cartoonist, falls into turmoil two months before her wedding.
Her betrothed, Jeff the doctor, dumps her fo... |More

| Gluttony for Beauty Takes Toll in 'Yoga' (Source) |
2009/08/13 |

Staff Reporter
The intention of the horror movie-wannabe "Yoga" seems sound enough. Misled desire for eternal beauty and youth leads a group of already perfectly gorgeous women to a sinister place where they all end up screaming and running for their lives.
But beauty has its price, and a horror movie that focuses only on looking good certainly forfeits its scare factor.
Director Yoon Jae-yeon, who made a fantastic feature film debut with "Wishing Stairs", the third in the blockbuster high school horror series, tries to create a "this could happen to you" scenario in an urban setting. But she thoroughly disappoints, delivering instead a pitiful B-movie spoof that may, at best, be granted a spot at a minor fantasty film festival.
Singer-turned-actress Eugene (Yoo Jin) stars in the lead role as Hyo-jeong (a.k.a. the one who shrieks the most in the film). Hyo-jeong had been the star host of a home shopping channel until a young beauty pageant queen came along ... |More

Local broadcasters and the movie industry are preparing to help viewers kill the summer heat with horror programs and movies this month. Here is some of what's being offered.

MBC, which has had a successful history of horror dramas, including "M - Drama", starring popular actress Shim Eun-ha in 1994, hopes to reprise that success with the drama " Possessed".
"'Possessed' ('HON - Soul') is not based on `Korean Ghost Stories' nor is it a part of the movie series `Whispering Corridors'. We used the film `Let the Right One In', which is about a relationship between a vampire girl and young boy, as a model, and started working from there", Kim Sang-ho, the producer, said at a press conference held at MBC, Ilsan, Monday.
`'Possessed' ('HON - Soul')' revolves around a high school student, Ha-na (newcomer Lim Ju-eun), who can see dead people, and a profiler named Shin Ryu, played by Lee Seo-jin ("Yi San", 2008). When S... |More
