Singer Lee Hyo-lee has donated 100 million won ($89,361) to the Beautiful Foundation in central Seoul, her agency announced on Feb. 8. The fund will be named "The Hyori fund" in the star's honor.
In Chinese characters "Hyori" can mean "Wanting to be dutiful towards the elders". A representative from Lee's agency said "She loved the meaning behind the fund's name and wanted to really do something for the elderly in our community". The money from the fund will go towards aid projects targeted towards the elderly.
Lee has been in talks with the charity organization since last year to open a fund in her name. She has previously donated 50 million won to help elderly people who live alone, as well as contributing 10 million won towards the "Snail Fund", started by singer Lee Juck.
Lee Juck, former member of the male duo Panic, made a donation of 100 million won to set-up a fund within the Beautiful Foundation earlier this year. The fund is geared towards supporting teenage orphans who lead households.
