The stigma surrounding a teacher-student love affair never ceases to fascinate the audience, making it a favorite theme covered in Korean dramas like I Am Sam, Sang Doo! Let's Go To School, and Romance. First broadcast in 2005, Loveholic set off a media blitz with the casting of Kang Ta as its leading man. The singer-turned-actor uses his real name Ahn Chil Hyun to kick off his acting career in an effort to shed his image as a pop idol. Starring as his love interest is Kim Min Sun (Young- Jae's Golden Days) who plays a high school teacher in love with her troublemaking student. Created by the producer of sentimental tearjerkers like Loving You and Rosemary, Loveholic also features Yoo In Young (I Hate You, But It's Fine) and Lee Seon Gyun (The 1st Shop Of Coffee Prince).

Though suffering from a chronic sleep disorder, Yul Joo (Kim Min Sun) somehow lands herself a job as a high school teacher. There, she meets a student named Kang Wook (Kang Ta), a troublemaker with a painful past. Soon romance blooms between these two star-crossed lovers, but their happiness is short-lived when Yul Joo accidentally causes the death of one of Kang Wook's classmates. To protect the woman he loves, Kang Wook takes the blame for the boy's death and is sentenced to five years in prison. Upon his release five years later, Kang Wook looks for Yul Joo but discovers that she is engaged to another man (Lee Seon Gyun). What's more disheartening is that Yul Joo has lost all memory of the murder incident due to her ailing condition.

기면증이라는 수면 장애를 앓고 있는 이율주는 춘천의 어느 고등학교에서 첫 교사생활을 시작하면서, 살아갈 이유라고는 전혀 없었던 문제아 서강욱을 만나 운명처럼 서로 사랑하는 사이가 되어 버린다.

강욱에게 이제 살아갈 이유가 생겼다.
율주도 처음으로 자신의 사랑을 믿게 된다.

하지만 율주에게는 이미 김태현이라는 남자 친구가 있었고 둘은 무언중에 미래를 약속한 사이였다. 율주는 그 모든 것을 버리기로 결심한다. 마침내 강욱과 율주는 모든 장애물을 극복하고 서로를 더 깊이 이해하고 사랑하는 사이로 발전한다. 그러나 두 사람의 사랑이 절정에 달한 어느 순간, 강욱은 우발적인 사고로 인해 사람을 죽이고 교도소로 가게 된다. 5년 후... 출소한 강욱은 율주와 재회하지만 율주는 이미 태현과 약혼한 후였다. 그리고 강욱 옆에도 학창시절부터 그만을 바라보던 윤자경이란 여자가 지키고 있었다.
