Actor Song Joong-ki has announced that he will donate the income he has earned narrating the "Tears of the Antarctic" documentary to the needy.
The six-part documentary "Tears of the Antarctic" will air on Dec. 23. The series is part of MBC's program "Tears of the Earth", which focuses on pressing environmental issues on the planet. The Antarctic edition is the fourth in a global issues series and the program is much anticipated due to the fact that rising star Song is due to narrate it.
Song announced that he will donate the entire sum he earns from the documentary to help the needy.
"I learned so much through the series. The love and nurturing of the male penguin towards its offspring was so touching and reiterated the significance of my family to me. It's not much, but I'm hoping that I can make a difference with the money that I made from appearing in the series".
The actor revealed that he was passionate about the project from the onset, as he is a fan of the documentary genre. In college, Song said he produced a documentary with his friends and won an award. The 26-year old will follow in the footsteps of other top actors to have commentated the "Tears of the Earth" series such as Ahn Seong-gi, Hyeon Bin and Kim Nam-gil.
The series featuring Song will touch up on the exotic marine life of the South Pole and includes rare footage of the birth of Emperor penguins and albatross as well as a stranded humpback whale. The special edition will also trace the voyage of Amundsen's Antarctic journey to coincide with the 100th-year anniversary of the explorer setting foot on the Antarctic.
