1 in 100 Cars Are Eco-Friendly

More than 10,000 electric vehicles plied Korea's roads for the first time last year as eco-friendly cars made up 1.1 percent of all cars on the road.

That translates into 244,158 eco cars like EVs, hydrogen and hybrid cars as of the end of last year, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on Tuesday.

"The number of EVs jumped from a mere 344 in 2011 to 10,855 last year, about 31 times more than five years ago", a ministry official said.
